If he's to get the job he needs.

a) more than 1 season experience in the championship.
b) to take over outwith a transfer embargo.

He'll basically have his hands tied while his reputation is on the line, i would not fancy that if i was him.

I feel like this could be to soon for Frank, but would wish him all the best.

Nice to see young English managers doing well.

While Lampard might be a good manager to come to Chelsea, how mental would it be to get rid of an experienced manager who gets them into the top 4 and wins the Europa in his first season, after they finish outside the top 4 last season, and replace him with a rookie manager who loses a Championship Play Off final?

Wouldn’t want it myself, for the same reason I didn’t want Zola to get it. Legendary players whose image I don’t want tarnished. That’s my selfish opinion anyway.

I definitely won't be wishing him well, as much as I respect him.

Lampard needs to wait until all his ex-teammates have been moved on.

It'd be stupid to sack Sarri after he's met the club's objectives this year of getting champions league football.

Would like to see Sarri here for another 2 seasons in the hope he's got rid off the deadwood and built a decent enough side for someone like Lampard to take over from.

Still think Lamps could do with another season at Derby (hopefully in the prem) and gain some experience in the top flight and then I'd feel he would be ready to manage us.

A very sensible comment TJ . I agree.

Such a bad idea.

With the transfer ban I could begrudgingly accept the club making a change this summer, I wouldn't like it but I'd understand it, but the point of making that change would be to bring in an experienced pragmatist who'll give us the best chance of keeping our top 4 status with this squad in the short term (which is as good as we can hope for next year). It would suck, pretty much throws all Sarri's progress this season down the bog, but at the end of the day that's how much that CL money means to football clubs these days. At this time with these circumstances I'm actually hard pressed to think of a worst potential appointment than Lampard, because no only is the timing too soon for him, if he fails we'll have ruined one of our only possible routes to a future long term stable manager who unites everyone at the club.

Mourinho on a short term contract would honestly be a better option than that, which speaks to how bad of an idea Lampard is. We'd have a season of toxic crowds (would be Rafa all over again), but he'd get top 4 100%. First season, different players, nailed on he'd do it.

Nuno would be a good shout. Lacking the big club experience, depending whether you classify Valencia & Porto as big, but has experience with big name players and this year proved himself a fantastic pragmatist especially against the top teams which would really help that direct battle for top 4.

Obviously the clear cut choice would be Allegri but I doubt he'd take it. If Spurs win the CL and Poch walks away, that's his job. Much more appealing long term project.

Actually I'd be more happy if it was Lamps.

Going back to pragmatism with Alegri, Nuno or especially current day Jose would be depressing and suggest there's no direction whatsoever. Lampard's appointment would suggest there's still a long term plan and commitment to overhaul our style of play, furthermore Lampard is probably the closest manager in style to Sarri out of one's available.

Also out of curiosity why do you think Jose would bring in a toxic crowd? I know he burnt his bridges a bit with some of his comments since leaving us but I can't imagine him being seen like Rafa was.

Like Rafa I can't imagine him accepting any accountability for (a) the 15/16 disaster, and (b) the disrespectful comments as United's manager.

If he surprised us and did I have faith the support will forgive and forgot from day one (minus a small minority), but he's Jose - of course he wouldn't. He'd continue putting his foot in his mouth and it would spiral from there.

The really interesting hypothetical question is how our support would react if we rehired Benitez this summer.

It's undeniable he's built up a sense of respect from all PL supporters since joining Newcastle. That would be very interesting to see

Didn't say I wanted it, but it would be interesting to see how we'd react. I'd imagine there'd be a small but very loud section booing him with the rest begrudgingly quiet

I never booed or hurled abuse at him creates a bad atmosphere for the players to have to perform in.

On the other hand I never sang his name or applauded him either!

Tried the high-profile experience direction didn't work, never going to with a manager that has no connection or even tried to with the fans either.
I'm on board with this different (thinking outside the box) approach, commend Roman for being ruthless and taking this approach.
Chelsea affliated direction is one I endorse.

Frank returning could just be the catalyst that tips Hudson-Odoi into committing long-term, accelerating contract renewal (worth it)
Manager that is genuinely invested in developing young players, will instill belief/confidence and has a attachment with the faithful.
Feel-good factor returns.
I'm all for the appointment. Sensible move, screw waiting.

I'm sure Ampadu would be delighted to be managed by the coach that actively pursued him as well, after being another one that has been mismanaged.

Gives club a much needed boost and perhaps gulvanise the club from top to bottom.

Kudos to Roman for doing what's best for the good of the club and most importantly our future prospects.

Parellels with unpopular Benitez being replaced by a fan favourite, except this appointment is deeply ingrained into the club.
I personally cannot wait to see the assembled coaching staff under Frank at Chelsea.

its lazy journalism for one and is deffo not happening
Sarri has met his objectives so also will deffo not be fired

but ill indulge this frankly absurd scenario

Guardiola had 1 year at Barcelona B before taking the biggest job in the world ,its almost the exact same scenario here.

its high time we started not only producing our own players but also producing our own managers,

If sarri goes ( which he wont and there is zero evidence to suggest he will ) then Lampard would be my absolute no 1 choice

id take him over any of the so called big names the stupid board would eventually go for should Sarri leave ( which he isnt )

Should go through with attempting to bring back Steve Holland, which was the intention months ago.

Might turnout to be the most fascinating managerial merry-go-round, in a while. Ready for it.

Pep is the exception to the rule... Also, Pep spent quite sometime learning from different coaches to transform his philosophy. Lampard doesn't have a particular style yet...

And no ... definitely wouldn't want him here anytime soon. Firstly, because he is a club legend and I would prefer to remember him as a player rather than a manager. Secondly, he just hasn't convinced me at this point, its not like he has overachieved with Derby. RDM had a better record in the championship - he was hardly that impressive as a manager ...

i think with a transfer ban coming the club will want an air of stability and good feeling and someone who can develop young talent

we havnt apealed the transfer ban which tells me the club don't want to

either because they know they wont win

or they will find a good excuse not to shell out a load of money

either way they will have to reduce expecations and start building internally, the possibility of Cech or someone coming in as DOF makes me think this is their way forward

its actually a perfect time for Frank to come in
