Go ahead mate. I'm interested in what our fans understand the role to entail and more importantly, what we think the role SHOULD entail.

And what was the conclusion mate ?

No one knows for sure what the role entails as it hasn't been publicly defined.

A Dof at one club may have similar but also different roles and responsibilities from another. And the most common role linked with what United want is a Technical Director. Again, the role hasn't been clearly defined. So we can only speculate based on others in such roles and what they have done.

Any thoughts on what people want the role to entail?

Personally I dont see whats wrong with the existing set up below or what adding someone between the manager and exec brings.

Scout, Chief scout, Manager, Exec.

I don't know the official role, but I would hope that the manager, DoF and CEO work as a team on recruitment. Having first settled what sort of team we want for the foreseeable future. eg, counter attacking or high press etc.
Then the types of player who can fulfil this, include the scouts in the process. The theory then is that even if/when the manager goes things can go smoothly on in the same direction.

Whatever the role I hope one of the first jobs is to get our scouting network in order. He can start by pinning the definition of scouting onto the wall at Carrington.

I disagree with that Diafol.

What he should be pinning on the wall the types of player that the Scouts should be looking at.

By all accounts the scouts have been doing their job. Ed has just not listened to them.
