If JN is going Bayern then the next obvious choice would be Rodgers, and Levy should make him an offer he can’t refuse.

Beyond that it’s Potter, who would be a gamble and although it does have a bit of a Poch feel about it I would say he’s a bigger risk in that despite Brighton’s nice football he hasn’t demonstrated a tangible improvement there in the way Poch had done with Saints (8th place and a really good team by the end of his first full season). I was calling for us to get Poch in the Feb of 2014 when LVG seemed to be favourite, be used I really rated him. Don’t have that same sense or feeing about Potter but I would still take the risk on him if it meant moving on from Jose.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When you add what Potter did at Ostersunds and overachieving with them in Europe, I think it becomes less of a risk.

If he comes to us, it will be a similar path to that of Ole at United. Take out the fact he was an ex-player, this is a guy who managed a small outfit in a weak European league, achieved great success domestically, and then came to a lower team in the PL. Only Potter is doing better with his lower PL team than Ole did. But United fans are reasonably satisfied at the moment with Ole; in second place, and favourites for the Europa. No reason why Potter can't do well with us with time and backing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ole is a different case, though. He has a lot of credit in the bank there as a club legend. All the backroom staff, SAF, fans and media all want him to succeed. Potter has a similar career, sure, but I can see it going south pretty quickly if he has a rough start. Plus United can attract players whoever the manager is. We might need some help on that front (see Mourinho bringing in Bale & Reg, convincing Toby to sign a new deal)

It's depressing to think that Pochettino (one of the best
Young managers in the game) and Mourinho (one of the most success in history) have both failed with this group.

We are cursed.

Yes, it's different in the respect of being an ex-player. There's still more pressure as a manager for a club at United though. But I think Potter would be given at least a season to bed his ideas in, in which top 4 and/or a cup may not be compulsory. As long as there were signs of progress. Obviously if he did poorly in his first season (we're talking a mid-table finish somewhere and no cup to show for it) then he'd be under pressure however that'd be the same for any new appointment.

for a club *like United

OK Spurtle you're winning me round

I'm not anti Potter, just cautious. I do think fans would be more inclined to blame Levy if Nagelsmann didn't work out (like they have with Poch) rather than call for the manager's head after a bad season tho.

Good to hear Bales

I just think people are making a little too much of the risk factor with Potter when it's not really any more risky than anyone else. Ok maybe someone like Pep is the exception but out of the options we can go for, there's no more reason why any of the others couldn't have a rough start to their time at Spurs either. Nagelsmann would be managing in an unfamiliar league for example.

Thought Fonseca was an interesting option for us seeing as it seems like Roma will give him the boot in the summer and they're meant to play good football and the numbers look good but Roma really didn't impress me with their approach over the two legs against Ajax so who knows

Ajax with 72% possession over 2 legs. Our fans would have a fit.

Not sure whether I prefer Spurs to ruin my weekend before it’s even started on a Friday night, or whether to ruin it at the end on a Sunday evening. Probably Sunday evening - if you’re team win the first KO of the weekend you can kind of relax through the rest of the weekends games with a smug sense of gloating. Whereas if they play last, you’re usually watching them fack up keeping up with, or punishing, rivals.

Anyone else see the rumours about Joe Lewis lining us up to sell and actively looking for buyers?

I don’t think this is true tbh

They’ve just submitted plans to finish of the surrounding bits of the stadium plus just bought the golf course opposite the training ground.

Think they are still fattening us up atm

#thfc are currently working on two different transfer list for the summer. One with José Mourinho and one without him. Mourinho remains unsure whether he'll be at the club next season. | @TransferPodcast

Quite impressed with Ryan Masons first press conference...seems quite an intelligent guy and comes across a lot older/experienced.

Obviously he won't be given the job permanently but I have a feeling he might go on to have a good managerial career and may return to us one day.

Not ideal Kane not training though

I think him getting the head coach job over Chris Powell who has actual experience means the club must think very highly of him and must see a future there

theyve both got the job

Mason is just the face now because of him being a young ex player

posted on 20/4/21

I honestly think it’s just a PR thing. Mason makes a better ‘face’ for the club while Powell does most the work behind the scenes. Or at least that’s my guess.
