I’m 32. But have had my own independent money for about 13 years, so yes. That adds up

Some of the more random places I have been would be

Turkmenistan
Kyrgyzstan
Kazakhstan
Uzbekistan
Tajikistan
China
Tahiti
Belarus
Ukraine
Russia
Honduras
Nicaragua
El Salvador
Bolivia
Peru

Overall I have been to around 75 or so countries I think, give or take.

What was Central Asia like? It’s a part of the world if I did travel I’d want to see. You don’t hear a lot about it but reading online they seem interesting. Former Soviet countries with lots of oil, and seem to be building some remarkable cities.

I also like the idea of travelling round South America. All the countries entice me, Brazil, Argentina, Chile especially.

A lot of my mates (I’m in my early 20s) seem to do SE Asia. Looks good but a well trodden path.

I’m reading through this thread now but it seems not a lot have been to sub-Saharan Africa. Perhaps a bit neglected for most ‘travellers’. I’ve been to Nigeria twice and I find it fascinating every time I go, and want to go back there for work experience in my degree. However perhaps it’s more fascinating for me as my family are from there. Lagos is planning a totally new district in Lagos made from land reclaimed from the sea that is aiming to be the new Dubai that I keep my eye on.

I enjoyed central Asia. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are the most 'put together' in terms of not being police states almost, you don't even need a visa.

Turkmenistan is just fecked up, really backward and strict though the guy spends a fortune on Ashgabat but it's a ghost town, quite bizarre.

Uzbekistan the most fascinating with the historical society and Tajikistan was the most iffy, they don't like the west and it showed, a cabby spat at our mini van as we passed and the terror attack involving the cyclists happen one of the days we were there about forty miles away.

Would recommend it though, it's a different world.

*historical sights not society though I guess that fits

I've been to over 55 different countries (approximately) in my life, probably much more if I actually counted. Before I was an adult I had already been to like 18 different countries because my Dad's job meant he travelled around a lot.

I've been to many different schools and had many cultures and influences on my life. It has made me a strange person to many people and my accent doesn't belong anywhere, its just mine alone lol. I am multi-racial and can speak five different languages too, including both native tongues of my parents.

Today I have nearly the same job as my Dad used to have so I'm moving around too.

Apart from visiting, I have lived (by live I mean spent minimum of 6 months or more) in the USA, Canada, Jamaica, Kenya, Brazil, South Africa, Qatar, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, UK, Switzerland (My wife and kids live in Geneva as I don't want them moving around with me), Czech Republic, Egypt etc.

I work with one of the big international NGOs so its not gonna stop anytime soon, luckily. I've grown to hate consistent and continuous extreme cold weather and I try to plan trips depending on that.

Once you get used to the sun and not caring about weather, it's really hard to go back. Places that rain a lot are depressing to me but that wasn't always the case. I've changed lol.

When I read about people freezing their behinds in places like the UK, and the expectation of cold weather and rain for moths to come, it makes me wanna hit the beach, order some cold beer and drink it next to the ocean or even in the ocean and appreciate my life.

All this travelling is work related, not holidays like others on here. In the end I hope to settle permanently in some warm sunny place.

That's a neat life . Best place you have lived?

Fack off Great.

And thanks Cinci. That's a tough question though. I could give you one answer now and then have a different answer some weeks later.

I'd have to go with Australia near the top of any list. I stayed in Sydney for a post grad diploma some years back and its got a very decent mix of everything. A jack of all trades but a master of none. Some other places are a bit extreme in one way or another.

The far east not a favourite of mine but there are many business opportunities across that region if you're business man, more than anywhere else IMO.
