He'll play for another 5 years anyway. Still got the chance.

Unlucky to have had the opportunity to play in two golden generations of Portuguese talent?

The Argentine examples are hardly world class.

Otamendi and Garay

Like saying Ronaldo had Pepe (probably far better than those two) and Alves/Fonte.

Strange comparison

Ronaldo has been excellent for Portugal and won the euros

Messi has been crap for Argentina and won nothing

"Messi on the other hand has been lucky"

I do think a lot of people genuinely believe Argentina have had this amazing team, when in reality they've just had a wealth of attackers to choose from, who can't play all at once.

Portugal, whilst still nowhere near the levels of Spain, Germany, France etc.. at their peaks, have had better midfielders and a better defence. They'e also got a decent keeper.

Neither have player has had a world class team around them.

he didnt perform brilliantly for quite a few of them euros games, he did get crucial goals at the end so fair enough, but prior to them he wasnt carrying the rest of the team alone

Ronaldo did no more to get his country into the Euros final (where he got injured early on) than Messi did get his country to a World Cup final.

It's such a distortion of facts to say Ronaldo won Portugal the Euros. He was crap until the third game, and Portugal were lucky they even went through to the KO round.

More to do with coaches/tactics. Portugal won the Euros not because of individual players. It was more down to the way they played and scraping through ties. Argentina have had good players but never really a decent coach or any sort of organisation and had Maradona managing them at one point.

So in that sense Ronaldo has been lucky that he has been part of a well organised team that has been capable of winning something as a team and not just relying on him.

Huh...Messi and Mascherano are probably the only reason Argentina reached that final.

I don't know if I phrased it correctly, but yes Messi did well in that tournament, although less so in the latter stages. The point is to make out Ronaldo did any more to help his national team win something is ridiculous.

Ronaldo will probably reach 100 international goals...that is just absolutely crazy

I didn't say he won it for them... I said he won them which he did as he has a winners medal

If you want to distort things tho....

Aaaahh. Got it.

Not that it's worth much but Messi was a Higuain shot away from winning the WC.

And an Aguero chance away from winning the Copa I think as well.

Ok then.

I think we can therefore declare that Ronaldo is the lucky one that he won something with his country, and Messi didn't, despite playing just as well as Ronaldo in tournaments before.

I think the point is, would Ronaldo have hada better chance of major international trophies had he been at his peak with Figo et al or with Bernardo et al. I think he would have

He won a major trophy though

Figo etc needed a Ronaldo more than he needed them

posted on 10/6/19

compare the players both messi and ronaldo had their side shows messi was lucky to have more than enough players to win international trophy.

ronaldo on the other hand had to rely on 2 veteran cb, average defenders and average midfield, not forgetting no decent back up striker

posted on 10/6/19

considering ronaldo has won 2 international trophies at his peak with the current team experience and young players portugal could easily have easily been one of the favorites for 2022 WC

posted on 10/6/19

ronaldos had it easier than messi for sure. Messi has had disfunctional coaches, a disfunctional fa, ridiculous team line ups, attack heavy teams.

Ronaldo has had a great supporting team who know there roles and tactics built around him. His team even won the final in which he missed most the game.
