Don't get all the hate.

Maguire is streets ahead of all our CB's.

We are United, we will get ripped off. He is English, a good CB and will command a premium. Don't get all the shock if this is true tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He's not better than Smalling. Not even close.

A for Jones is better than him. Lindelof and Baillybare also better than him.

He's garbage
----------------------------------------------------------------------

A "fit"

Lindelof and Bailly are better than him

He's garbage
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that’s just not true is it. Whether you rate Maguire or not, he’s definitely not garbage.

McGuire doesnt stop other players scoring against Leicester, particularly.

I haven’t seen enough of him to properly judge, but surely there are alternatives for the price quoted. Don’t ask me to name them though, as I don’t watch much football apart from Utd and Wales these days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Babyen. I'd say Chris Mepham is as good as him to be honest from the little I've seen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright Diafol. Not seen much of Mepham either to be honest. I have to say that my knowledge of other teams is at an all time low.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough Babyen. I don't watch as much as I used to either to be fair. Mepham has played well for Wales when I've seen him.

As for Maguire I just think we should be able to scout someone similar for a fraction of the price. What he would bring though is leadership and aerial ability but not sure that would be enough. Between Bailly, Jones, Lindelof, Rojo and Smalling I think there's enough ability there to create two really good centre backs. Unfortunately though it doesn't work like that!

For the price quoted then no. Wouldn’t be happy if he was our only CB signing and for that price you’d expect that’s what he would be.

He’s a good player but I’m sure he could find better and cheaper on the continenant.

Summer 2018

Woodward and his sidekicks say no to Maguire because he thinks he's overpriced and not much better than what we have.

Season starts and team falls apart and Jose gets sacked despite asking for another CB

Summer 2019.....We buy Maguire??? Don't get me wrong it definitely sounds like us to do this but surely Woodward asking for trouble doing this?

That's why I'm not buying it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont but that we were even in for him last season.

He’s great on the ball and very good going forward - that’s really his skill set as well as being a threat from set pieces.

It’s ironic that he can’t defend a set piece to save his life. He’s also incredibly slow and often unaware of what’s behind him.

Overall I’d be happy to see him leave for that money, over the moon. I don’t think he helps us defensively however he adds a lot to our possession and attack, bringing the ball forward and going on bobby Moore style runs which are always great to watch. But he can’t really defend

He would do well in a City team were they dominate possession. He will strugle in a team which plays a high line and he needs to play against quick attackers.

He could form a good partnership with Baily or Smalling.

They laughed at him on the dutch tv because he was very bad on the ball. He holds to long on the ball and his passing was very poor.
Gomez is a better defender, quicker, and better on the ball.

He was poor against the Dutch on the ball because he isn’t used to being pressed like that. It caused all the defenders a problem to be honest

At best he is slightly better than what we have. But he isn't, despite recent trends, worth 70m.

If we are going to spend big, then we need to go spend it on someone would is not only much better than what we have, but also improve our defence as a whole.

Maguire will not do that. His deficiency will be highlighted and exposed more at United due to the spotlight on him (United, price tag, England International).

I actually liked him when he was at Hull. But his time at Leicester hasn't shown such vast improvements.

What's even more frustrating is that we have sold better defenders under our previous managers in Evans and Blind than what we have kept.

What are peoples thoughts on nathan ake at Bournemouth
Looked decent the few times I've seen him last season. Comfortable on the ball , good in the air and scored a few as well
Another good young Dutch CB in the making

posted on 11/6/19

Would rather the Maddison rumours were true than Maguire if we we're shopping at Leicester.

I think he's good, but I think we need someone that will improve us right now and that's not him. He does still have some mistakes in his game though.

Apparently Dunk is off to Leicester so a Maguire move is looking more likely. Lewis Dunk wouldn't be a bad signing for United tbh.

Defending wise I'd say Maguire is at a similar level to Smalling, but better on the ball and passing it/bringing it into midfield. Good injury record and solid in the air for set pieces.

If someone asked me if it would be worth spending £70m to improve Smallings passing/ball control a little bit I'd say no, I want someone that's a lot better at defending as well.

Maguire would be a rip off, even though he probably would improve us a tad.
