I don’t rate him anymore than the other English CB to be honest and nobody is perfect but in a red shirt VVD has been very close.
£80m for Maguire would be ridiculous. He’s decent, but not the quickest and I wouldn’t say that much of an improvement on what we’ve already got (when they’re playing at their best).
Surely must be better defenders around for that kind of money?
80m is way too much for Maguire imo. But then again 75m everyone though was way too much for vvd. How things can change I suppose. Don’t think Maguire could get to them levels. If we are spending that much I’d rather an extra 20m and get Koulibaly in personally.
Everyone seems a lot of money now. It's our own fault, we overpaid for Pogba soother signings are rated on the bar we set. Same with Sanchez wages. For a world record fee, which Pogba was, you should be getting a guaranteed superstar.
No, he's not as good as VVD, but imo he's an upgrade on who we have now.
Re Koulibaly, I haven't seen enough to know how good he is, but if he is another step up and we can get for not much more, then yes go for him.
I do think though that Maguire would greatly improve our defending from set pieces, which we need. Also will chip in with a few goals. I see him as another Steve Bruce, maybe a de luxe version.
Why are our negotiations so drawn out compare to others. Just go grab a beer and hash it out in a couple of hours
£80m seems a lot but Stones went for £50m and I rate Maguire as a much better player in every aspect.
Take into account inflation in that short time and it’s about the going rate for a promising English ball playing defender.
He’s no VVD though
