Iheanacho, himself, was actually purchased on the “Akinbiyi scale” - with the value increased to take account of inflation.

Maguire would be a solid addition to the squad.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but there aren't scores of significantly better and attainable CBs out there.

This potential transfer worries me for a number of reasons:

Will it be the prelude to losing other promising players like Maddison, Chilwell and N’didi?
Keeping these players would be a signal of our progression.
How well would we re-invest the money? We haven’t always spent money well after letting big players go.
We should be building a team around our best players.

The only thing that doesn’t worry me is if we get anything like £80m for Maguire then we’d have mugged Man Utd. Surely there are more complete players out there for that fee?

If I could guarantee we’d spend the money wisely and not spaff it up the wall then this transfer would be an absolute no-brainier for that fee!

Some good points Joby. £80m is only a great deal for us if we reinvest the money wisely and frankly ever since the title win we have been very hit and miss at doing that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Be very wary.. the last time Rodgers got his hands on £80m we got Balotelli, Markovic and co.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah his track record in the recruitment market is gash. And we have Lee Congerton as head of recruitment as well which doesn’t help
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rodgers to assess what he wants
Congerton to scout the players
Rudkin to seal the deals

What could possibly go wrong?

Not at that price. I'd rather we go for Alderweireld. That will give us some time to look at others as well as see how Tuanzebe develops.

I've given up looking at transfer fees, tbh. They're all just varying degrees of preposterous.

I don't have an issue about over paying as we have been known for it. But at 80m we should be looking at someone who is the finished article. And it's not like there isn't an alternative already out there.

Interesting notes on this flying around the rumour Mill mainly twitter,
Via a news score telegraph possibly,

We know he's worth £50 million + as an English defender with potential,
Leicester have stuck the high price on him to stop teams coming in for him,
Arsenal, spurs & man city don't spend that much,
Which leaves Madrid, Barcelona psg who don't buy potential usually
So that really only leave man utd or man city who would also get the English player bonus
United according to rumours are at 80 million
Which is obviously 10 million short of our put off price
Then Sunday night it brakes that utd the only other team interested in Tielemans have dropped interest in him.

Could this be part of a deal
We drop tieleman in exchange for letting mcguire talk to utd
Are we now in a 3 way triangle with Silva
Interesting story and seems feasible,

Certainly better than some of the guff I've been reading,

Tielemans is one of the supposed Pogba replacements.

This is where utd dropping interest in him to get maguire seem possible?

It occurred to me today that we’re currently battling with Man Utd to sign players.

It doesn’t seem very long ago that we were being turned down by the likes of: Nicky Maynard, Billy Sharp and Craig Mackail Smith.

If we lost Maguire, but got Tielemans I wouldn’t be too disappointed. We don’t have anyone else who could do the YT role in our squad, whilst we already have some credible alternatives to Maguire.

I'd agree with you joby
I'd prefer someone who can head the ball, put their foot through it when needed and more John Terry in the coming forward 20/30 yrds and pass not someone who thinks he's the 2nd coming of Pele 🙄

Ok. Perhaps I should have stated: retain/sign.
Maguire and Tielemans have been strongly linked and others such as Chilwell and Maddison linked a little less so.

My point was really a reminder to Leicester fans of how far we’ve come in just a few years - building on my previous comment on how, relatively recently, we couldn’t attract players from Bristol City, Peterborough and Doncaster Rovers, but it could equally be used to illustrate the decline of Man Utd.

Man Utd are just too big a club not to bounce back at some point, but currently they’re much closer to Leicester than they are Liverpool and Man City. Miles closer in fact. Some realisation for their fans no doubt.
