I think my comparisons are also true. Do you have the same views on the two Liverpool legends.

Fine player? He's the best midfielder in PL history.

Hmmm maybe. He seems to be a bit more critical in the media than Gerrard imo. Flapping his gums and being derogatory about stuff often.

That's his job though I guess. Much like Souness I rarely see him say much positive though.

This is actually when he played.

To compare Scholes to Gerrard is fantasy stuff. Top player but not close to Gerrard, as evidenced by the votes of their peers above at the time they both played.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really a good indicator to use to determine who is a better player though is it? Xavi and Iniesta probably have less individual awards but doesn’t mean it would be fantasy stuff to compare them with Gerrard.

posted on 19/6/19

Toor still believes statistics prove everything. I don't k ow, or care, what awards the greats of the game have won, I know they are great and that is sufficient. Scholes and Gerrard played slightly different roles in different teams. Impossible to say who was best, Scholes suited our team and way of playing. But to say comparing them is fantasy is fantasy in itself.

posted on 19/6/19

keane and viera probably didn't get as many individual accolades as gerrard/scholes but many would argue they were better players than both of those

posted on 19/6/19

It's subjective at the level these players got to, all top top midfield players.

I always find the argument of who is better, when you're talking about the top players, boring.

It's Roy Keane though

Scholes has always be a little rat on and off the pitch. Not sure quite why he is held in such high regard. Dirty little facker when playing. Used to cry about being shy to avoid media commitments then shows up every other week when he retires. Retired from the national team early. Regularly talks rubbish on TV and then left his club after 2 months, seemingly because he was placing bets whilst being manager.

He's a piece of sh 1t.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This

This is just bitterness because he has 11 more prem titles than Liverpool.

No, its just a very one-sided and bitter slant on the truth. That bit about him being dirty is true tough.

He was dirty.
He did quit England
He did bet on football
He did absolve himself from media duties and now he does a lot if work on it.

It's not even up for debate tbh. Sorry.

They barely celebrated as deep down they know it's all hollow and hardly an achievement. I'd wager any PL club being ran by a middle Eastern country would have a fair shout at doing what City have. Sense of inevitability about it all.

Still prefer them to the rats though.

Exhibit what. Thierry Henry is widely regarded as one of the best players ever to play in England. He said it, not me.

Scholes was better. End of. Gerrard was excellent too but didn't quite have that instinctive genius about him like Scholes, Iniesta and Zidane. He was more Roy of the Rovers type.

Ok, my last comment on this.

Yes, he was dirty. No question of that.
Yes he quit England, but the comment was that he quit too early. Who is anyone other than the player in question to comment on what too early is?
Yes, he bet on football. But the comment suggested that that was why he quit Oldham. Where is the evidence of this? Scholes himself has given different reasons for leaving the club.
Yes he avoided media commitments previously. But he was a player then. He wanted to concentrate on his football and his family. Now he has retired from football he has time for a media career/commitments, for which he gets paid. Its his job.

So yes, as I said, a very slanted and bitter version of the truth.

posted on 19/6/19

Its still true.

It said he retired early actually and he did because he kept playing football. He said he was too shy for media and now he's not. Youre looking for something that isnt there. Sorry for having an opinion on the matter though.

Close the site please. It's all pointless.

He's not alone. Guardiola said that Scholes was the only English player he'd want at Barca whilst manager. This was prior to the CL final with them.

You just don't like it because he's a Utd legend. Gerrard was class but he wasn't a genius. He was a Roy of the rovers maverick and a very good player. Scholes was just superior.

I actually hold David Silva above Gerrard now too. Just. It's not a rival thing as I'm no fan of them lot either. I think those two are genius types like Zidane. Never believed Gerrard n Lampard were.

posted on 19/6/19

I'm all for cross rivalry debate and have done plenty. But at the moment there doesn't seem to be any debate, it seems to be mainly two or three Liverpool fans coming on our board being either sarcastic, sneery, condescending , because your team is on a high whilst we are on a low. Any comments back are met with, it's just an opinion, debate it or some such. We can hardly have an article without the same type of comments, it derails plenty of posts and gets tiresome.
