Well! Is he or isn't he?

Yeah, it's possible to do that, & probably sensible, but do football clubs do the whole pre-contract thing with manager, or just players? I dunno, it's a sunny day, and I'm sitting in the back garden on my second bottle of Chardonnay (the missus is at work, and thinks I'm cutting back brambles) so perhaps I'm talking cobblers. Hic.

comment by Harper - Ram in Auckland. Contemplating life without Frank. (U13926)

Hello all. I'm back after a few weeks of contemplation (having nothing meaningful to post) after the final defeat. Frank isn't ready for Chelsea, not by a long chalk. Don't get me wrong, he had a decent first season as a manager, slightly above expectation in my book, but one decent season with a decent championship club doth not maketh a Chelsea manager. I genuinely believe he needs to get a few more years under his belt, be that with us or another club, to properly prove he has "it". If he turns out to be the real deal (as I do believe he will), the Chelsea job will come around again. Those bleating to the media that "he might not get this chance again", of course he will, Chelsea change their managers like I change my socks. He is a legend at that club, always will be, and rightly so, he COULD also become a legend at derby if he plays his cards right. He has a rapport with our fans that I'm yet to witness at any other club with any other manager, after only 1 season. Chelsea is the obvious, romantic option for the media to latch onto. Derby is the right option for Frank at this current moment in time. He could build a legacy here, then move on to his beloved Chelsea in a few years time after they've sacked another couple of managers and finally be the one to build that dynasty mourinho often spoke of but never delivered. Of course, he could leave us now and go to Chelsea and be an instant success, however, i dont think that would happen, he's still a bit wet behind the ears in management terms, man city and Liverpool are so far ahead of everyone else that there's no chance of competing with them without major squad surgery, which can't happen due to the embargo. Saying that, then, I think it would actually be a very poor decision for him to go there now. They need someone like Benitez right now, previous success at the club despite fan protest, someone who is proven to get the very best out of what he has at his disposal. Note his contract has almost expired. I think we will see him named as manager in the next couple of weeks.

Fin.

Continue drinking.

Harper may I say that is the best post I have ever read on 606. Well done, I agree with everything you say and I wish I could out it like you have.

Frank you are a clever chap and you know you will be better off managing us for a few more years. Then you will be a Rams legend and you will want to carry it on till we really do something good.

Thanks VC, I had a moderate amount of alcohol in me at the time and it seemed to concentrate my thoughts on the subject.

Enjoy your summer.

So now Drogba has released a video stating Lampard IS in talks with Chelsea, Mel must have sanctioned this otherwise it is an illegal approach. Fed up of this now and wish he’d go so we can move on and get someone in that wants to be here.

I wonder what has gone wrong in our new season's planning whilst this is going on?

posted on 23/6/19

Agree with Tommo. Usually close season speculation keep things ticking over but this is just boring. Will fully support whoever we get. Now can we move on, find out who our manager is, sign some players and have another crack eh!

Let the guy enjoy his holiday.. ffs !

posted on 23/6/19

We owe Franks a dept of gratitude and hope for a fruitful future relationship (loans etc). But his holiday is less important than the welfare of Derby County.

I think Franks down his uncle Harry's place in Bournemouth !

Another video posted by Drogba with Ferdinand saying his is in talks. Very unprofessional all of this. Mel being very quiet on the matter also

If Frank goes we are going to be in a mess. We have lost our best 3 players, several more are leaving and we have only signed Shinnie. I think we are treated like mushrooms and it isn't good enough.

I hope he stays, but if he doesn't for Christ's sake bu66er off and let's find someone else. I don't know who I'd go for, I thought about Monk but there are some very dodgy transfers and we don't want any more of that.

I hate Russians, they are the rudest race on earth and Roman is a prime example.

Here here VC. I have been trying to point out the danger ever since Frank's possible move was mooted. But I do not see what Mel could have done about it.

Mel did foresee this and did the only thing he could be inserting that clause in his contract. I just hope he has the nerve to hold out for it and not be seduced by promises of loans etc.... Jody Morris will be a massive loss too. But as I have said before, if he is going to go, do it now because I cannot be doing with this season after season

posted on 23/6/19

If he chose to stay I can see the media backlash already, Derby holding Lampard back etc...

posted on 23/6/19

I sincerely hope he stays and I think the media can go to hell.

Frank made a mistake in team selection at Wemberley and Boothroyd made a mistake not picking Foden. You would wonder what planet they are on? They might get away with it at Derby or U 21s, but the mighty Chelsea would go ape sh!t.

Keeps the interest going in the close season though.

Here is the text from THAT video ....

Drogba: "My question is, Mr Rio Ferdinand, what do you think about Frank Lampard possibly becoming the new manager of Chelsea Football Club??

Ferdinand: "I think they should do it, I think he’ll get it. Is he talking?"

Drogba: "I don’t know."

Ferdinand: "I think he is talking. I think he is going to get it, yeah. If he is talking then he is getting the job because he can talk. Frank, take the job man, take the job. Take it. Chelsea need you."

Drogba: "You see, it is not coming from me."

Ferdinand: "I don’t care, he is my friend, I don’t care. He should get the job. He deserves it."

Drogba: "Job. Done."

Apparently that "confirms" he's in talks for some ...

It's a tongue in cheek video, maybe in bad taste, but this is what people do on social media now. Nothing much in it for me.

If Frank goes so be it. Remember Frank only achieved slightly more than Gary Rowett on the pitch. His main achievement was in terms of raising our media profile and engagement with the fans.

Whereas I would be sad to see him go, we will receive more in terms of compensation than we have paid him in wages. We can use that money to strengthen the team (assuming it is spent wisely).

posted on 24/6/19

What do you think Lampard, Morris and Evans plus all their agents haven’t cost Derby more than £4m in wages, bonuses, expenses and signing on fees in the last year?
My worry is Mel is going to appoint a cheap option like Moore. Mel took over 4 years ago and now it looks like he’s having to appoint his 8th manager.

posted on 24/6/19

You have included a number of incidental costs which almost any manager would have incurred. The cost of Lampard to the club was his wages plus any agent's fees.

They are just paid for letting their tongue wag in the breeze. They have to say something whenever somebody gives them a mic. It matters not what verity their words represent.

Talk sport again reporting he is expected to sign in the next 48 hours...... so can the club confirm we have been officially approached and he has been given permission or is this all still just media nonsense?
