I wouldn't fancy Roy Keane, even if he looked like Alisha Dixon.

> His main achievement was in terms of raising our media profile and engagement with the fans.
I think his more open-minded approach and willingness to give things a try (even if they didn't always come off, and indeed cost us at times) has been one of the more memorable things of his tenure so far. You never knew for sure exactly who was going to line up, and he showed a lot of confidence in players that might otherwise have not had chances, but always was never afraid to drop those not performing out of the team.
There were however plenty of points where it didn't look certain his job was safe here, quite a few times when things weren't working out at all. I'm sure there were moments in the season where he was a game or two away from being shown the door.
There is certainly pressure for the kind of approach he brings from the fans at Chelsea as one of the reasons they didn't like Sarri much is because he stuck to who he wanted to play, rather rigidly, and wasn't giving certain players chances (2 of them ended up with us). Sarri's approach however worked at Chelsea for the most part, enough to impress one of the best clubs in the Italian league.
Frank's approach, while good for development of players in this league, or with the expectations of a lower half expectation Premiership club where you can afford to give chances, might not actually work at Chelsea even if it's what the fans want. Would they accept mid-table if it means their younger English up and coming stars were playing, or would he be out of a job by Christmas regardless?
I'm inclined to think where he is right now suits his management style better and gives him more space to breathe, but maybe he knows his job isn't 100% secure here either even if he does stay; the loanees carried the team for much of the season when other things weren't working, so without them, or with inferior ones things could quickly go sour for him here, just with maybe 5 or 6 games bigger buffer to put them right than if they go wrong at Chelsea.
Good stuff 9earchange, that is what I've been trying to say.
Abramovich has only employed one inexperienced manager. That didn't last long even though he did fluke the Champions League. I can't see Abramovich changing his policy and appointing Frank. As Tommo points out, Benitez is available and has experience of running a club on a restricted budget. Anyone willing to bet with me that Frank will be manager on July 1st when the players return.
The only reason why I want frank to stay is the lack of quality of out of work managers. There’s not 1 single manager that’s out of work I’d have at Derby
Well Benitez has just come on the market. Hopefully Chelsea make a beeline for him leaving Lampard to do his work.
If we're feeling brave attempt to get Benitez here. Even if it's a no, show the industry we're looking for high calibre managers or those with extensive experience a la Lampard styley.
I did wonder if Hoddle could do a job? Got links to Chelsea so hopefully get decent players in.
My second thought on manager was Carrick. Another quality midfielder , has been under the tutelage of Fergie, LVG , Mourinho and erm Moyes and Giggs!!!
We also need to set a deadline and get Frank yo agree that after this point it's too late as pre season kicks off soon.
If you give a deadline to frank and it passes and then Chelsea come in for him, what do you think frank will do?

Hence I say he needs to agree to the deadline Griff. We can't be left in limbo on the grounds he might / might not leave , resulting in us having less time to find a replacement, run pre season, get players to adapt to new style. Recruit players to new manager's style of play. Plus we sold Luke Thomas and may continue to sell players / recruit players that the new Manager may have wanted to remain or not wanted those recruited. The
It was announced that all would be resolved by July 1st. Chelsea have deadlines as well as Derby.
Luke Thomas would have been sold if the manager wanted him or not.

Where was it announced?
Griff, why would Luke have been sold even if the manager wanted him?
Because of his off the field behaviour and attitude
He might well go but still reckon all the headlines are just made up to attract fans to the site that get ad revenue by the click. If it was a done deal then there is no reason why it wouldn’t be sorted by now, I can’t believe that Chelsea would struggle with the compo if they really wanted him
The Mail, Express, Sun and Mirror have displayed appalling, lazy, ill founded crap to write about in their shoddy rags. I detest the media and their quest for stories that are lies. Saying 'what Lampard has to do as new Chelsea manager,' really pisses me off.
I don't think Benitez would go back to Chelsea, he isn't especially popular there, and I doubt he would want to operate under the transfer embargo.
I actually think we're in a much more attractive position for him, FFP limits aside. I still think in terms of playing a youthful side Wenger might fancy a season in the Championship (but leave if we get promoted) should Frank end up not staying.
Where has this Wenger idea came from? If Frank leaves and we get benitez, what a coup that would be, and it's not beyond the realms of possibility as he managed Newcastle in the championship.
Wenger has expressed an interest to go back into management at some level I believe, just not in the premiership out of respect for Arsenal. There's no substance to suggest an actual link, but I feel we're a type of 'final project' he might enjoy in a similar way to Bielsa at Leeds.
Benitez does tend to clash with owners when he can't get his way from what has been said, which is why he's not staying at Newcastle (no getting the funds he wants) and I feel less likely to go to Chelsea due to the embargo. There's a chance he might clash with Mel who seems very no-nonsense, so I'm not 100% sure it would be a coup, but he may feel he wants to show Chelsea what they're missing out on by doing a better job than Frank here should they appoint Frank.
We can’t afford managers like Benitez
Benitez is looking for a bigger club than Newcastle. I suspect he already had his next job lined up before the Newcastle announcement.
We are a bigger club than Newcastle, we have won 2 titles since they won anything.
It would be a privilege for Benitez to manage our wonderful club.
Indeed, Newcastle might have a large stadium / fanbase, but they're being run more like a League One club, and will likely follow in the footsteps of Blackpool or Coventry if things continue that way, so can't really be seen as bigger than either. Benitez is no fool in that sense.
I'm not convinced he would be a good fit here tho, and even if he gets the job while Frank goes to Chelsea I can see him inevitably linked with Chelsea again if he does a good job once Chelsea have had an average season and their transfer embargo is over and the fans have lost patience with Frank. (No disrespect intended towards Frank, but they're a club that just lost one of their better players an have their hands tied)
If Benitez comes to Derby other than as a visiting manager I will show my bare ar$e at Pride Park. What planet are some of you living on?
