Cyclists beware!

Next time you’re driving, think of this thread and note whether you stick to every speed limit. And I don’t mean sticking to 35 in a 30, I mean actually sticking to it.

No one does.

Cars rarely ever go through red lights. Very rarely. about 90% of cyclists do. I'm not trying to be a diiick, I just don't understand why they do it.

As for pedestrians walking through red lights, I agree, it's pointless to not wait and I don't think people should do it. If everyone just waited for the right time to cross/go everything would be safer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Very rarely? Tens of thousands are fined every year and many, many more get away with it when there are no cameras.

You’re plain wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t out of how many that is but from my own experience it is very rare to see a car jump a red light whereas cyclists do it all the time, there are more that cyclists jump red lights than those that don’t.

I’m just saying it’s a bit rich to blame people driving cars for acting dangerously when most cyclists behave the way they do.

Cyclists jump red lights because there's little chance of being caught and fined unlike motorists.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’ll just add on this:

- you notice cyclists jumping reds because generally it’s more blatant, where as drivers do it at high speed when lights have just changed and this is normalised/accepted, as most driving infractions are.

- there is more opportunity for cyclists as they’re generally not stuck in a queue. When drivers have the opportunity to break laws that they’re confident they can get away with, they do i.e. 35 in a 30.

- drivers and cyclists are the same people. There’s no inherent behavioural characteristic that belongs to people who ride bikes but not who ride cars. This is vs them debate is moronic.

Oh and lastly, I believe a study some time ago, in a London, showed about 12% of cyclists ran red lights.

Anecdotal evidence is of no value whatsoever and you’re still wrong.

‘Most cyclists’

You’re talking out of your backside.

Yes, an official study is of course trumped by your own opinion.

Nope. Try reading the study before making ignorant comments.

Now, what percentage of drivers do you think drive at 30mph or lower every time they drive in a 30 zone?

I don’t know. Are we going to get a national figure or another London based one?

If you have evidence to back up your view then by all means provide it.

Seeing as you couldn’t even read properly before you replied initially, I don’t hold out much hope.

Absolute joke.

I’ve knocked 3 people over in London because they walk out with phones and don’t look. Frustrates the hell out of me as I damage my bike. I don’t care about them. Next one that does it is getting their phone smashed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh shut up you absolute belllend.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine a bloke like Steaky in Lycra threatening to smash my phone
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I remember the idiot a few months back telling me how he smashes wing mirrors off cars when he sees drivers on their phones.

Dunno what's worse, being that much of a nob or lying about being that much of a nob.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither are as bad as being a Liverpool fan from London.

Why do so many people hate cyclists so much?

I'll confess I don't cycle, I've got a bike but am too scared to go on the roads

In all fairness, that's terrible.

Was it a case of them not using their wing mirrors properly? Or perhaps some weasel was going around smashing them off?

The mindset of the aggressive, urban cyclist.

Look at me, I'm fantastic.

You're in a van but I'm superior to you even though you might be on your way to deliver something I urgently require.

You're in a car, you're ruining the environment, I don't care if you have to be in 6 different places this morning and you live 70 miles away.

Oh, a taxi. You think you rule the road, I don't care if you pay £100's a year for the 'right' to use the Bus Lanes and your passenger is a wheelchair user.

I'm a cyclist, fek you all.

Said without a hint of irony from Boris.

This whole issue is because of drivers who believe they are more important than cyclists. Like Boris does.

posted on 23/6/19

Boris also making the mistake of believing drivers pay to use the road and cyclists don’t.

Ignorance in the extreme.

I think you're pretty nuts to cycle in London tbh. It is dangerous (although cyclists don't help themselves by behaving recklessly in the first place)

Moronic generalisation and victim blaming. Disgusting and an insult to those who have died.
