For me, the biggest error was giving out too many (any?) 4 year contracts!

I’ve been one of Orta’s biggest critics. His saving grace is Bielsa... and he knew he was giving up control to do it... but it was third time lucky.

By then he had already spunked so much cash on u23s and long term contracts to everybody... he left the club too cash strapped to properly support Bielsa.

As for green. Everybody at the club knew green was a better keeper than wiedwald BUT TC and Orta wanted sweeper keepers. Green’s distribution wasn’t all that. Bielsa wouldn’t pick him either if he were still here.

See I dont buy that at all.

Have you read the interview that Green did about his time at Chelsea?

His role for the club was more than just cover, he would work with the coaching staff and play as the other teams keeper in preparation for the next game. I.e, we was expected to do the stuff the other keeper would do in a game and play like him.

He liberally had to adapt his game week in week out at Chelsea

Chelsea wouldnt have given him that role to do if he wasn't capebale of playing different styles, for all their faults they aint going to leave that job to someone not able to do that.

Nothing about his ability while he was here suggests to me he wouldnt have been able to play under Bielsa

This one Matty?https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47605775

Just says he’s was training as the opposition. He was third choice there. Even If he was being asked to sweeper keep... . it doesn’t matter if he gives passes astray in a practice match.

Green is apparently a good guy, he’s experienced and useful to have around the place. I really liked him and thought he did really well for us... and I wish we’d kept him... but distribution wasn’t his strength and was unlikely to become one at his age.

Was it good enough to have got by? The club didn’t seem to think so and opted for Felix. Could it also have been more down to Orta forcing TC’s hand to play his new signing than a ‘style’ of keeper choice? Guess it’s possible.

I genuinely don’t think bielsa would have picked him, but it’s all just opinions.

Matty, I think Green has said that he wants to move into coaching/management. Chelsea seems to have been a great stepping stone toward that. Good decision made by him. Can't fault it in hindsight.

I would offer Green the Earth to come back for one season.
