I just wondered if those that have been banging the DOF drum would be prepared to wait until Jan / next Summer for new signings if it meant getting the best DOF in.

If you have answered honestly then fair play, although I'm pretty sure there would be 1 or 2 going mad come 10 August if we haven't got anyone else in.

I do want/expect more to come in but if they didn't the issue would be that there would be no guarantees we'd get the DoF in January.

If we were guaranteed a really good DoF in January then I'd take no more signings this summer. That would be the best long term outlook for United.

But maybe the manager would.prefer to wait and get the signings right with the use of a DOF.

The issue is that we wouldn't know.

If the club came out and said we were getting a DoF in January then I could live with no signings in the summer. Not that is should ever be either/or though.

So if in doubt, moan ?

I genuinely dont see how 1 man will make such a significant difference that anyone would give up a transfer window.

Not at all.

All I'm saying is that I would take no signings to get a DoF in January. The fact we get no more signings this summer doesn't guarantee that.

If the club were able to guarantee a DoF was coming in then I could live with no signings. However, the way the club has been run recently, there's no guarantee no more summer signings = DoF in January.

As always I reserve my right to praise/moan as I see fit. Same as everyone else.

Take away the top six and there's still another 28 games we'll play where we'll probably by favourites in. Some flat track bullying wouldn't go amiss!

IMO getting a DoF would symbolise a change in attitude. To get some success some proper footballing knowledge needs to be part of the process above the manager. A plan if you like. This would not be a sign of weakness from Ed more of a sign that he realises that the footballing side cannot be neglected.

I realise United won't win all 28 games of course but those are games you'd expect United to be the favourites in. The games against Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal could go either way with City and Liverpool, as it stands, being games where we wouldn't be favourites in.

Knowledge of what though? Tactics, ability to identify talent, coaching, Downton negotiate contracts?

I don't want to be disrespectful but we've been down this road before several times.

We don't know what kind of DoF we'd get but I'd want them to be involved in some kind of forward planning and strategy and be responsible for a consistent (in terms of style) process in identifying players and managers.

So essentially a scout for potential United style players and managers?
