Nothing to do with licencing cyclists but civil insurance. You may be getting bored but you have to read before replying.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well my comment about data is linked to losses by people from cyclists, so it's linked to the licencing point.

The suggestion is every member of the UK should have the insurance - it would be compulsory.

Dress it up how you like, it would be a tax.

Most cyclists I know also drive.

Most people I hear ranting about cyclists don't cycle.

Which possibly explains why it seems that cyclists are the ones who get criticised most.

Haven’t read the last 13 pages but I’ll presume a reasoned debate about cyclists was had by all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been fractious at times but generally quite a decent discussion.

Exactly.

And as I said earlier, imo many people get frustrated at waiting for cyclists and think they own the road, so they then try to create a rational reason for disliking cyclists.

You can't just say dress it up how you like. It's not a tax and wouldn't go to the state.

I'll be honest. I find myself equally frustrated by drivers and cyclists. I'll also admit to being more annoyed by cyclists (maybe the bias coming into play here) as I realise how vulnerable they are and their sometimes reckless moves frustrate me.

But Winston it literally is not a tax. You are wrong.

I get what you're saying, doesn't make it right.

I used to dislike cyclists. Then I became one.

Now I get irritated with all idiots on the road but am able to measure that irritation accordingly.

For example, a guy blatantly speeding in a built up area irritates me a lot more than a cyclist going through a red.

You're not actually correct but I don't think a semantics debate about the definition of tax would be beneficial to this thread, so let's agree to disagree.

My main grievance, becuse it affects me the most, is walking in the pedestrian area of the town and having to watch out for bikes, occasionally ridden recklessly or even if not.

This is true. It’s not often you get people driving on the pavement.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is fine.

The problem comes when you bring that into a debate about licensing or insurance.

Yet the vast majority of pedestrians deaths, on the pavement, are caused by drivers.

talk about generalising

posted on 25/6/19

Basic summary is that everyone knows cyclists are generally caants and act like the rules don't apply to them, but that's because they more or less don't apply, and there's no feasible or realistic way to enforce the same rules of the road as for car drivers (aka murderers). So people need to just accept that they don't often hurt people, despite acting like tw@ts and annoying everybody, and just give them a bit of room to do their thing.

Not sure you understand what a generalisation is.

That probably sums it up. Cyclists annoy drivers. Drivers kill cyclists. Pedestrians stab people and rob banks. It's a reasonable conclusion.
