I see most Leicester games too and go to a few as well, I thought he was comfortably their best defender last year until he dipped a bit towards the end of the season.

I know Leicester fans are split on it, but I do think some are trying to convince themselves he was worse than he actually was to justify being ok with him leaving. Hes not in that top bracket, but he is a very good player when he’s on form.

Struggling to nail down a place in a team ranked about 50 in the world doesnt get me of my seat really.

-------------------

I wouldn't have made a judgement on Robertson based on Scotland being crap. Its a shame our two best players are LBs with Tierney and Robertson. At the time Tierney was flying for Celtic and would have got far more media attention up here than someone who plays for Hull.

Tierney is better than the vast majority of LBs in the Premiership in my opinion. Will only find out for sure if he makes the move down south.

Yeah I get ya Im just saying that when signing a little known player Im going to get more excited by one that plays for Germany than I would Scotland.

That's just how it is.

Maguire could improve though and he’s better than what united currently have, and united are loaded so he’s worth a punt.

And maybe it’s Maguire this window and a partner that compliments him in the next window.

Ultimately if united sign him and he improves the team he’s worth it.

I personally giving an honest opinion of him and think he is being hyped and that is driving his value up. My steak dinner tonight does not revole around if or when we sell him and for how much! Lol

Maguire is good in the air and can stay fit, that’s the only value he really brings above our other cb’s. That does not make it a worthwhile signing, however, as his flaws outweigh his strengths. It would be a terrible signing.

He's also linked with city

How do you rate him as a potential signing ?

There’s certain opponents against which he’s exactly what we need, but for the price being discussed now, I’d expect more than that.

Has Mick been trying to fit them in the same starting 11?

We have tried playing Tierney at RB (Robertson at LB), LB (Robertson at LW) and LCB (Robertson at LWB) and it just hasn't really worked.

Its almost a blessing if one of them has an injury.

He is a leader too I'd say. Still not convinced and especially at £70m +.

Crikey that's a lot of money. Maguire is certainly a good player though.

I think his leadership qualities are a big attraction at this time, as defensively we don't have any at all

That and the fact he is PL experienced means he should hit the ground running which is something ole needs

I have to say he's looked the part the few times I've seen him for Leicester and England and would likely improve on our current cb options. Will he be a 70 mill + improvement ? The consensus of opinion is no amongst the knowledgeable utd posters.

Doesn't look like we are linked with anyone else at this time. Should ole bring maybe tuanzebe back and work with what he has for now ?

Florida Fox, I guess where I'm coming from is that I've often seen fans swearing blindly that defender X was solely to blame for a goal and other fans of the same team putting the whole blame on defender Y. On the other hand, people compiling stats probably have to use a slightly more objective standard. E.g. something like an unforced error that directly led to a shooting chance. If we have wider criteria, then even the best defenders will make little positioning errors or failure to cut out a danger in time many more times a season than the numbers either of us are talking about. They'll probably be punished for them less often the better the team they play for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair points there and as fans we are our own worst critics of our team and players. I just think he is too slow and the fact he take the ball from the back is not what I want from a true CB.

I want your body on the line blocking shots and not giving away pennos.

I’m not really sure, RR. Cb is a dIffict market, as we’ve found the last few years. But I just don’t rate Maguire, I’d rather stick with what we have and give Tuanzebe a chance rather than waste a king’s ransom on a defender no bette than what we have.

Improving the midfield and bringing in a right back would go a long way to improving our goals against record.

You need a defender with pace with the modern tactics which are to push your fullbacks further forward. The quick cb can help out defensively when the fullback get caught out of position.

CB position is more about intercepts, headers and reading of the game in a back four which plays very deep. The top european clubs want a defender who can play in a high line and have the recovery pace.

I said the same myself earlier. Really rate Tuanzebe from what I've seen. But maybe we need a leader more right now.

We also need quality at the back, Maguire doesn’t have it.
