Timing......

For all we know, the club could have done just that - put feelers out at the end of last season or at very least after Bielsa committed to another year.

The club don't need to let the public know of such things until they have something concrete to say.

This was my point earlier, its been left too late, so club can say its too late to get someone in, but Bielsa happy with squad as is, blah blah blah, just like we saw with Wood sale and replacing him with loanee Lasogga.

If Pontus does go, every penny has to be reinvested in a CB.

Do we have time though? Been linked with costa and white for a good 2 months before we signed them... given our recent history not very hopeful if im being honest

Cooper doesn’t fill me with any confidence unfortunately neither does Berardi

We werent linked with white for 2 months that I can recall, do you have a link?

Was linked with white for at least a month before he was signed

Yeah a month, not 2.

Ok a month then... point is given our recent history I don’t think we do things rapid or smoothly and this Pontus thing is huge - got to sell for right price and bring in better quality.

If not, Bielsa has history of walking when things go tittts up. Slightly concerned

The club knew of this saga at the end of last season maybe? If so contingencies may have been pencilled in. One just hopes White isn't his replacement.

Think is point is, it takes us ages to get players .

And transfer window is short this time. Ends in a month

I made that point myself LIW.

Fortunately though we have an extensive scouting network, our man in the far east, and Orta running around signing loads more U23 players.

Don’t know about anyone else.

But fully expect Phillips to rejected new contract and be sold

Quite frankly, if someone offered me £20m ( as being suggested) I’d bite their hand off. Do it early ffs. Get shot if he doesn’t want to stay. Up Pontus to £10m - £30m buy 2 replacements for and leave some in kitty for January

But Radz and co will have their own plans no doubt. Can never guess what with them

Players are worth what a club will pay and nothing more.
The whole football world is aware Jansson can go.
£5.5m is the highest bid from what we are reading and thats from Brentford. If he was THAT good then Premier teams would be after him and his value would rise. At present thats not happened.

White it would appear has been signed to be a first choice centre back battling with Cooper and Berardi with Phillilps or Strujik providing cover.

The players fly out in 6 days. Expect squad numbers to be released soon.

So the timing of Wood's sale wasn't dictated by him refusing to play for us? Really?

Proper mental.

There could be a point to be made here, but... posting bull$hite to try and justify it... nah

Agree with your comment about Jansson being worth what someone is prepared to pay. If he goes to Brentford then why has no Prem team come in if he is that good and cheap?

posted on 6/7/19

I’ve watched him for three years and he’s easily good enough for most prem squads

Just because he goes to Brentford doesn’t change that

Personally think it a disastrous move for him if it happens

While I would agree with you it would seem the Prem boys dont.

Whatever his shortcomings regarding attitude and discipline, the thought of a player of his stature going to Brentford is simply mind-boggling.

In saying that, I mean absolutely no disrespect to Brentford.

This looks very similar to the Cantona saga 27 years ago. Outspoken, attitude problems, and clashes with the manager/head coach resulting in a swift exit at a cut-price fee. The only difference is Cantona went to a big club (choking as I say it), whereas Jansson looks like being packed off to mighty Brentford.

As others have mentioned, it's strange and perhaps telling how other, more high profile clubs, PL or Championship, have not come in for him.

Saiz is another who looks to be high maintenance. Undoubtedly talented but with baggage it would seem, and no serious suitors to date. What makes this one worse is that he's been available for transfer for months and hasn't really pulled up any trees on loan in Spain.

In both cases, for player and club it's lose, lose.

I find it strange, he’s been here three years and now all of a sudden, when he’s leaving, he’s trouble.

What’s changed

Pontus to Brentford is a weird one. Doesn't fit their model of how they churn through young players for profit. Whatever team signs him, good luck to him.
Sad he's going. Loved watching him and his passion.

Liw

This transfer if true reminds me of McAllister ti cov. We've stuffed up really

Take Jansson out our defence and it suddenly looks very suspect.

Keeper is dodgy.

Left back position wasn’t nailed down last season.

Don’t like the idea of Cooper alongside a mediocre partner, although he has improved and his lapses of concentration are less frequent.

Berardi should be sold.

Ayling is quality at this level.

Got idiots saying Jansson isn’t that good, isn’t a team player and so on. The guy has won us points on his own with some of his individual defensive displays. He’s our best defender by quite a margin.

Problem is, whether they’re high maintenance or not, those two players are top level operators at this level; Jansson especially.

You don’t find players of that quality for under £10mill typically, and every signing has an element of risk.

Clubs business has been good this window to date, but this deal is sh*t.

Lesser players at this level go to the prem for 12m. It's a ridiculous deal
