Bielsa Contract

Starting to really dislike the side before self motto

Not because I don’t believe in the concept of it, but it’s just trotted out every-time by a certain section of the fan base to defend anything and everything

1) He was obviously a disruptive influence within the squad and was setting a bad example to the others who had bought-in to Bielsa's ethos
————————————-

Hang on, he was signed three years ago on loan, he was then signed on a permanent on a long contract. He’s been here 3 years now.

Before this week, nobody would have said he was a disruptive influence.

So it wasn’t obvious

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Was obvious to me towards the end of last season.
I saw little signs - his social media, how he interacted with Bielsa from time to time. Just little things that I can't recall now after time has passed, but I did pick up on them and just hoped that Jansson would wind his neck in a bit.

.....

It should all be about who is best for the side and how that side delivers promotion. I've worked plenty of places where some characters get on better than others - I suspect everyone else can think of similar. But as professionals you put differences aside and get on with the job.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've worked alongside people who I really didn't get on with and we did it successfully. Sometimes there's a clash of personalities for no apparent reason - I talked to the guy about it and he felt the same: a sort of "bristling" whenever the other was around.

The only way situations like that can work is if you're both intelligent human beings, both professional and (in my experience) both working at the same level in the organisation.

It simply doesn't work if one is the boss of the other and often what happens is that the 'lower' one bad-mouths the boss every opportunity he gets and does his best to do things his own way as "he knows better" than the boss.

That's my take on the situation anyway!

But he’s always been like that.

Nobody was saying he was disruptive a week ago.

Have you ever wrote on here about it ??

Not that I recall. It wasn't something I thought newsworthy at the time.

I think this article is reaching for excuses a bit (the tunnel thing was explained as Jansson just not seeing AR) but the stats are interesting:

All I can say is we better a bloody good player lined up to replace him

Harrogate, we got him already, Ben White whom Bielsa apparently rates highly.

posted on 8/7/19

If that is true than maybe its better he moves on, and the stats do say we're better off without him!..

Ben White, maybe Bielsa knows better, and the way players play for him maybe he'll get that bit more out of him!..

He managed it with a whole team last season!..

I am actually astounded by those stats 😟

Staggering stats.

posted on 8/7/19

That’s why I don’t take any notice of stats.

Its nonsense

posted on 8/7/19

Not statistically valid, and skewed by the teams played and the overall form of the team at any given time.

However, it does imply we didn’t implode without him.

Prutton is saying, Liam rosenoir has worked with White and really rates him. Let’s hope he’s right, I known sod all about him personally. He’s young and has no experience at this level so i’d be very disappointed if he was THE replacement.

Ben White, never seen him play. Seems like a cheap option for me and we need experience in there IMO.

The stat comparison is nonsense. Pontus missed the first month or so of the season when we had good results. You could easily show stats with Saiz or Baker in or out of the squad - and conclude that they were responsible for our victories.

It’s what Bielsa thinks of the stars and we all know he holds analysis in high regard, I’m sure that Bielsa would be able to slice the data with more granularity.

He’s a massive stats man and I’m sure he will have given the club his reasons for letting him go - in triplicate.

Not saying it’s a good thing because Jansson has something we all love. However those stats suggest we can live without him short term at least. We must, however, get a decent replacement in before the window shuts and preferably before the OZ trip.

It's where the U23's come in.

They wanted Cooper and Jansson gunplay as much as possible and then have Halme, Phillips and Berra to come in on occasion to cover. This season, it could be Phillips, Berardi and Struijk.

posted on 8/7/19

Bielsa views Berardi as a centreback. Never going to work as a fullback in this style of football, not good enough going forward.

White is the replacement. I don't see us signing another centreback.

“White is a replacement”

I thought he was on loan?

posted on 8/7/19

Its a big risk Jonty

To win the league, we'll need Ben White to be a revelation and Cooper to stay injury free (played 37 last season, just 30 the year before). Ben White might well be a very good player but we should expect to see Berardi or Strujik at centreback for at least 6 games between them. Could be the difference.

I was hoping that one of lessons from last season was it's all well and good having a small tight knit squad but when you train and play at high intensity with that squad over a season injuries keep happening.plan for the worst rather than relying on good luck.I fear unless there is a signing in the pipeline we are about to be exposed again to injuries.

I genuinely thought we'd hold onto most of squad, maybe sell 1 and then somehow bring in 2.

Clarke is deal to free up some equity to do some business, great.

But to ask so many of existing squad if they want to leave just creates huge unrest, whether they want to leave or not, it undoes all work we felt we were seeing in making Leeds United again last season.

posted on 8/7/19

Cooper is injury and suspension prone. As good as he has been for the last 2 seasons, it's no good to Leeds if he's injured in the warm up or giving penalties away in the second leg of playoff finals. Hopefully we sign another centre back if not Ajayi.
