Good player, won't improve us massively.
---------------
with what we have yes he would
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He wouldn't really though... Season past he suffered with injuries admittedly but the season previous he only started 20 league games

He's no more than a squad player for them
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep.

He'd be the Marcos Rojo equivalent of our CM.

I'm starting to think we're not in for Fernandes, and never were. Seems to be taking a lot of time considering no other clubs been seriously linked to him.

Or that Ed is dithering

Surely with him being a Southampton player we have to be in for him too.

Maybe there is some truth to the Matic to Milan / inter rumours (which would be mental as we’d have pretty much lost all our CM’s in the space of 6 months).

Guess it’s ok as though as we’re being linked with sure fire quality players like Lemina and Bakayoko.

We are a Europa League team with a chaotic boardroom and inexperienced manager.

I think fans were expecting 4/5 world class players to come in. They never were.

But Liverpool have proved you can take unearthed gems or forgotten about quality and make them fit. It takes a proper plan and good coaching though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Im not expecting 4/5 world class players though. I never have.

However, quite a few tiers of players between 'world class' and 'Mario Lemina' do exist you know?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Give me a list of DM's we could sign then. Ones who will want to drop down to the EL or play for a less than proven manager. I'm all ears.

We are going to have to take a punt on 1 or 2 if our buys. They won't all be £60m+ players.

No TOOR, you're not, and that's what's worrying.

Tbf I don't think he's a lot worse than some of Liverpool's CM's. It's definitely their weakest area. They all work incredibly hard to make up for their lack of quality though and fit Klopp's style well.

This really. I quite like him though from the bits Ive seen.

£18 for a player who adds good ball control, power and good pressing isn't the end of the world.

I have always rated him when I have seen him, he isn't a world beater though.

I think you should read my comments. I have never stated all our signings should be '£60m players' or 'world class players'.

Tielemans at £40m, Kovacic at £40m, Andre Gomes to Everton at £22m, Athleti got Hector Herrera on a free. All these represent better quality to value scenarios than Lemina at close to £20m.

Wolves have signed Dendonker permanently for like £10m ffs who is better than Lemina.

Also, I'm not a scout, so its not my job to research all the upcoming players who would represent value. But I'm sure you can take my point that plenty of attainable players do exist between the level of Lemina and established CL players, who may not be drawn to us currently.

Our club however are quite clearly incapable of capitalising on these scenarios currently.

Guess your right and we shouldn't sign any creative or B2B midfielders before next season though.

Anyone arguing you couldn't get a better DM is deluded.

This guy can't get in the Southampton team, i mean Hojberg is better and that's without even leaving Southampton.

I don't actually think he'd be a bad signing. Did enough to convince Juve to sign him and did ok there, albeit never really nailing down a first 11 place - but there's no shame in that at Juve.

Seemed to be injured a lot which would be worrying but a hard working CM that has decent distribution wouldn't be so bad for Utd. Not everyone needs to be a superstar, you need your Fletchers or Butts.

I think the more likely scenario is that Utd are saying to Newcastle - see, we have other options so don't be stupid about the Longstaff price...

I think that's what they tried with Leicester and Maguire aswell, all of a sudden we had interest in Diop from West Ham...

We have enough Fletcher's and Butt's in McTominay, Matic, Fred & Pereira (I'm not saying any of these were/will be as good as prime Fletcher). We need genuine quality in midfield at this point.

Tbf, Nicky Butt was better than all of the players listed on this thread so far, a 21-22-year-old Butt would walk into our current midfield and would be club captain.

I really liked Nicky when he played for us, as you can tell...

At least we don't have a manager telling me not to spend money to fly over to watch us play Leeds.

No need... We'll play them twice in the championship next year
