in my ear of supporting Leeds, my cult hero's are:

Tony Yeboah
Lucas Radebe

I'm sure Jansson could of been if he'd of finished his career with us.. he defo had that 'cult hero' way about him.

I'd even go as far as to say Cantona could of been too...

People saying Beckford for his ManU goal!..

Does that make Brian Flynn one as well?..

Beckford was one of my favourite players of recent years, but nowhere near a cult hero..

Cult heros are players who can do no wrong in the eyes of the faithful. These players just "get the club" and embody it or the era the club sits in.. Not to be mistaken for legends as these types are appreciated the game over and backed by a record of great achievement.

In recent years, for me a cult hero paddy.

I’m reading all these names in the past 25 years....

I’m not seeing any advancement on Smithy.

He could do no wrong, absolute loved him!

How does this fit in with the side before self ethos?

How do players become cult figures, is it through putting the side before all else or is it because fans elevate and venerate them, in essence, raising them to being more important to them than the rest of the team?

I think cult status is achieved because fans elevate them, venerate them, some fans love them, not necessarily thinking they're more important than other players in the team...I've mentioned historic players like Overfield, Meek and Johanneson, got the crowd on their feet, but they could never be more important than Charles, Bremner and Giles for example...

Been here before LIW
Berardi isn’t a cult hero.
You need to go back in the day when the passion from the fans with players was a different level, actually different levels.
He might be a cult hero for the new breed of softies.

Cult heroes will differ for groups of people. Never watched Leeds in the PL so obviously my cult heroes and the cult heroes of my peer group will be different from those of you who have, or even those of you who watched Revie's team, or before Revie's team.

I think that's correct Lubo...cult figures can range from wing players to uncompromising defenders or range from any era...it's the players who make a positive impression on the crowd, consistently...

I didn't say Berardi was a cult hero.....

And I'm no softie!!

Berardi is a useless liability that along with some others cost us promotion.
Get rid!

George Meek I would say was a cult figure, by reputation and rumour there was lots of stories about him...he was in style and physical stature very much like Jimmy Johnstone (great Celtic winger), he was a character on and off the field, mischievous...this was before being 'naughty' became fashionable into the present day era...his antics on the field and stories about him off the field established him as a cult! 😀
