Cost more than your whole budget, yes. Top 3 RBs in the league last year, 10 years + left in him.
they are all mugging you off

Was replying to Nickasaurus' comment about not having heard of Longstaff before this year.
But yeah sure, you were already following AWB intently long before then...
AWB has always had shades of Nesta in him whilst playing for the Palace reserves
Why don't we try and sign a good player instead?
It's not about signing good players, it's all about targeting the urban market so we can make our money back in shirt sales. That's how modern football works.
I’m completely shocked that people are still surprised about transfer fee inflation

It's not sustainable though. Soon you will have to choose between building a new stadium and signing James Ward-Prowse.

I think the shock is wearing off tbh.
But £50m for Sean Longstaff? Do me a favour.
I blame Leicester. £30m for Ayoze Perez and now Ashley thinks he can just pluck figures out the sky and laugh to the bank.
Neither Maguire or Longstaff are worth anywhere near the valuations but United will continue to get taken to the cleaners whenever they are interested in a player.
Maguire even in this market is no more than a 50m player and Longstaff 15m at best.

Nobody has a shirt with “Chevrolet Stadium” on the back.
“Ward-Prowse” has eleven characters in it. There are 1bn United fans in China. You do the math.

It is certainly an example of newspaper speculation. If true, it would inarguably be an example of transfer fee inflation.
Whether it would represent idiocy or not, I have no idea, because I haven’t followed the player’s development or seen him in PL action.

----------------------
I agree about Maguire. Longstaff I haven't seen enough of. But if he can come in and do what Carrick did, and with his age, I could handle £25m. But £50m is ridiculous for a lad that has played 15 first team games for Newcastle.
In reply to the Op, no it doesn't.
A player who made only 8 appearances before getting injured is no way worth that much, even in the current market. There is little comparison between Longstaff and AWB as the latter has had at least a season and a half under his belt before being bought. Add to that that he is very young and one of the best in the PL, it is in the current market, equivalent to us buying Shaw a few years back.
If you were to compare a similar transfer United have made yo Longstaff, then Dalot would be are better one. And in Dalot's case, we just paid the buyout fee to get him as that's how highly Jose rated him.
8 starting* appearances (15 in total)

No one has. Even the geordies know nothing about him. Therefore it is idiocy.
Same as I said 89 million for Pogba and 70 odd million for Lukaku was idiocy.
I kept getting the 'but it's inflation' argument then.
slightly different VC, but different none the less. Pogba and lukaku were well known internationals.
You see someone like Lukaku and what 3 seasons of 20 goals in the league near enough...hes gonna go for some wonga. £70 mill is just inflation on say, £50 mill for torres 5/6 years earlier
