I believe 1 fellow on here is from a Moroccan background, another Arabian.

Are you telling me that you genuinely think it would be OK to question their claim to be British because of their family name ??
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nobody is questioning their claim to be a particular nationality. More the fact it’s unusual to have a player with that surname as Irish. Which it is

Might be unusual but I wouldnt question your claim to be Nigerian.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
That;s what people are saying though. It is unusual but no one is seriously questioning his claim to be Irish. Unless of course people take everything literally.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You are the first person to suggest it is a joke.

BTW jokes of this nature are casual racism.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What else was it? I certainly don't think it was a serious comment.

I get this kind of thing myself. I get people saying that the Welsh language has no vowels (actually has more than English) or you need a mouthful of phlegm to pronounce the names.Or the old classic about bothering sheep. It's tiresome after a while yes but not racist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Those kind of jokes are the definition of casual racism.

It was clearly questioned how he qualified for Ireland based on his name

It’s not racism shut up RDD
If a guy with a name like that was called into the first team squad for a friendly or WC qualifier the general chat among 99% of the supporters either in the pubs or the terraces of lansdowne road would be “this new lad has a grand Irish name”
It would be said in jest and be laughed off. I’ve heard and seen it loads of times.
So RDD are you saying the overwhelming majority of Ireland fans are casual racists?

And you wouldn't care one jot if he gave 100% for this shirt I'm sure. It's just a name isn't it? I don't think being called a sheep botherer is racist. It's tiresome on occasion admittedly but I don't think it's racist.

I think there is a very good chance RDD is a goat botherer. Maybe chickens as well.

He certainly isn't right in the head.
