Maguire deal agreed

I'd always prefer my assessment to be wrong and for a player to succeed at United than be proved right.

I do think Maguire would do ok for us but for 80m you would expect more than ok in truth.

Ok is an improvement on Baresi Jones

I think we’ll all look back on the signing in a few seasons time and be happy/glad we signed him, he’ll do really well imo. Not sure if people will ever agree with the price tag but tbh they’re just mental now days.

Price means nothing. You have the money you spend it. This signing makes your team better but not enough to challenge for the title. Is there any utd fans that think it's only going to take one window to rebuild. I don't think so.

That’s a lot of money for a slight upgrade on Phil Jones....

Has any credible journalist reported it yet?

He’s better than what you have but not by a huge amount. Honestly think Evans is a better defender for us. He will start off well and look great then after a few games the mistakes start creeping in

It's an interesting point Re Evans, because we know better than anybody that he is a good defender but one who needs the guy next to him to hold his hand a little.

You probably know better than me, but I said on another thread that I suspect the reason we are after Maguire is because we see him as that guy to guide his partner. Lindelof and (potentially) Bailly are also good defenders but not leaders and I really think someone like that would bring a lot more out of them.

It was one thing that Rio always did. Even when he was old and past it, whoever was playing with him, be it Jones, Smalling or Evans always looked good. To the point where we as a club massively underestimated the problem we would have at CB when he and Vidic left.

I'm not too pleased with this potential signing but trying to look at the bright side of it, if he can develop into a good defender (he wont ever be top class IMO) but bring some real leadership to that back line it might not be such a bad thing.

The OP says it's not the Sun and there are other reports...... somewhere.

Never believed that
If you watched the City documentary Pep targeted McGuire because he was so slow
Just didn’t ring true that Pep would be chasing a slow defender
Probably agents trying to push the price up

I'd never watch a City documentary

Fair play to Leicester to push for as much as they asked, but Utd should have done better. Maguire might improve the defence immensely, but won't get you at City or Liverpool level, let alone the european top.

This only makes sense if you try to bank on the fact that Brexit is on and non-UK players wont get work permits (in time or at all).

Seems like the reports may have been premature. Other sources saying Leicester have still to agree a few with United

posted on 14/7/19

Neither would City fans if their attendance is anything to go by.

Local journos in Leicester. I think it’s a matter of time but a fee hasn’t yet been absolutely agreed so they say

No decent sources ever claimed it was a done deal tbf.

The Leicester Mercury says no offer has been received by the club, so I've just read on the Leicester board. If it wasn't the Sun OP who was it?

Then Lancashire could sponsor city’s tea lady for £40m a season.
