Yeah. I mean, you look at our current top 7:

Burns - opener. Fair enough.

Roy - not an opener. Out of position. Usually 5 or 6 in red ball cricket.

Root - doesn't like 3. Out of position.

Denly - bats all over the place but not usually at 4. Out of position.

Stokes - 5 is probably about right. Fair enough.

Buttler - normally wicket keeper and usually #7. Out of position. Has been tried everywhere from 3-8.

Bairstow - normally bats at 5 for Yorkshire. Out of position. Has been tried everywhere from 3-7.

Yep top 7 for me moving forward:

Burns, Sibley, Northeast, Root, Stokes, Pope, Foakes
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This. Personally I'd switch Stokes and Northeast though. I'd also be equally happy with Hildreth instead of Northeast but either would suit me.

Either way, the selectors need to (a) pick a good coaching staff, (b) work with that coaching staff to figure out what they're looking for at EACH of the top 7 batting positions, and (c) pick players to hold down those roles. All 7 of them won't fire at the same time, but there needs to be a plan in place. Not random "er let's switch Rooty and Denners and Jonny and Jos and hopefully that'll work, yeah?"

Honestly I'm just so sick of writing the same comments over and over. This performance has been utterly irredeemable. I'm sick of it now.

I honestly want them to just sack Bayliss on the spot. Don't let thestep out on his own terms, strip him of his facking dignity by chucking him right now. What purpose is there in keeping him around for 2 more tests anyway?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's my annoyance with the side too. I don't mind being sh!t if we have a clear plan in place, have picked the best batsman in their positions and aee merely outclassed, but we're not doing that.

No idea what Smith gets paid for because he clearly doesn't watch any actual county cricket if he thinks this is the best 7 batters in England.

Nah Cook has a fair point. Ridiculous to schedule an Ashes series so close to the world cup, our only warm up game was a 1 off test against Ireland which is not enough to get the players switched on.

Did rhw aussies even get a warm up test?

If Root likes #4, but the openers get out cheap, what's the difference?

Too many t20/odi players in the side. Not many that can fight for their wicket and willing to bat long innings.

Yeah they played a few county sides and then had a game against themselves after the first test whilst we did nothing.

If it’s turning like that for Lyon 4th innings our tiny hope of chasing any total is gone now.
