England have been poor too, the team selection isn't right. Too many players picked based on white ball cricket. Anderson also been a big miss as for most part Broad and Archer haven't been backed up

England's "excuse" is that all of their players have just played a very draining one-day world cup. It has clearly affected a number of their players. But rather than swap these jaded one-dayers for test batsmen currently playing well (Foakes, Pope) the selectors have left them in there, and basically haven't prepared for the Ashes at all.

Meanwhile the Aussies prioritised the Ashes this summer (believe it or not), and despite this only one of their side can bat - they're fortunate that the one guy they brought in from county cricket has immediately become their second best (i.e. second) batsman.

If England had picked two more players who had been preparing for test cricket in the run up to this series they'd have won it comfortably in my view. It doesn't matter how good the Aussie bowlers are, with only two batsman they wouldn't have been able to keep up with an England side that batted properly.

that's all it is an excuse, these collapses in batting have been happening against bowling attacks much worse than aus over the last 4-5 years, the issue is not just this world cup but England have made a conscious effort to be the best odi team since the 2015 wc and clearly don't have enough players who can carry the game over to test cricket
