For me no one was racist on that thread. People were just observing that the name of the player in question didn't sound Irish (which it doesn't). No one actually questioned his right to play for Ireland though.

I'll be honest VC. I do find it tiresome at times being called a sheep botherer but I wouldn't call anyone racist for it. It usually happens when I'm on holiday but my stock reply now is 'We sh** them and you eat them".

Same goes for the Irish lad's name. As Irishred said on that thread there'd be many an Irish person in Dublin before a game going "Good Irish name that". They don't mean any harm I don't think just making an observation. Most right minded people know that a name doesn't make you any more or any less Irish/English/Welsh etc.

I think we should be able to rate members and not just articles. Then the author of an article can set a minimum star rating in order to post in their article.

I like how the Irish team has gone from being mocked for being full of English players to everyone being completely fine with that. It's like England have just won something with a lot of non-English born players? Hmmmmmmmmm lol.

RDD: Hated, adored, never ignored...

Well, maybe not adored. Not sure why people give him the time of day, though. As soon as he’s unmasked (usually on day one of his return), I filter him. If everyone did that, we’d have Admin’s work done for him very quickly.

He’s just really stupid basically.

Isn't the point here not that RDD was wrong to call it racist, but that he was being 100% disingenuous. Everyone knows that he comes out with hard-line anti-immigrant views in most of his short spells on this forum. He was trying to be cute.

RDD is always on the border of disingenuous Red Russian.

I always believe context is important and he was trying to take people down the path where he could label them racist when, IMO, people weren't being racist.
