On the plus side, the TdF being on won’t increase cyclist numbers for the next few weeks either

The solution in the not so distant future will be AI. No one will be driving manually through city centres. The bots will manage congestion and as such there will be more room for cycle only lanes/roads

So what is the solution? Ban bikes from city centres?

No. The solution is the exact opposite - ban cars from city centres/CBDs. Keep/improve public transport in CBDs and improve parking options around the periphery of the inner city.

The vast majority will benefit from these proposals in a multitude of ways.

Can you please keep the debate unreasonable.

Got knocked off my bike this morning along with another cyclist by a woman driver who tried undercutting a car and came into the cycle lane and hit us. She was late for work was her excuse.

I’ve got a broken pinky finger and many scrapes and the woman on the bike behind me lost a tooth.

In the last 10 years of cycling I have had the following -

1 broken arm
2 broken feet
1 major operation
Rehabilitated myself to learn how to walk properly again
1 broken wrist
2 broken fingers
3 new bikes due to damage

All you angry drivers - give me a list of the issues you’ve encountered that have impacted you life by bad cyclist. I bet there are no more than one.

Lucky it was not more serious

Are there no traffic free routes that you could take, even if it takes a bit longer? I try to avoid busy roads at all costs. Drivers are just too dangerous and murdery.

I go down canals and through the parks as much as possible but I have to cycle through Camden to get there and that area is crazy in rush hour.

Only plus point is the bike wasn’t broken. My frame is scratched. I think I’m getting used to being hit now and learn how to land when I’m shunted. I usually see it coming and am able to avoid the car but this one took the woman behind me and me by surprise. The cyclist behind got the brunt of it and the poor old woman had her chin smashed against the gravel and lost a tooth. She was in a right state. The driver wanted to go as she was late for work. I blocked her and made the police breathalyser her. They are also checking her phone company to see if she was using it at the time off the collision.if she was I’m suing her!!

Very often people including me are both cyclists and car drivers, and of course pedestrians. If all could be kept separate it would be bliss, but not possible.
It's easy to say ban cars from city centres, in fact it's easy to do. But not fair on the people who live there, it's all right saying public transport, but for the elderly, people who need to get somewhere in a hurry, taking your dog to the vets etc, a car is a godsend.
If you say taxi, well that's another word for a car. I don' have solutions as there isn't an obvious one, otherwise it would have been done.

Did you get her number plate? You could always go and slash her tyres?

I don't like typing this, tempting fate, but never had an accident as driver, walker or cyclist, except falling off on some wet leaves.
Had near misses as all three. Have need hit twice by bikes recently (well over the last five years) in the pedestrian area of town, but neither at all serious. If it were possible, cars below ground and separate lanes for bikes and pedestrians.

Should be charged with driving without due care and also entering a cycle lane. You managed to restrain yourself, I would have put my bike through her bonnet.

Cyclist should not be put in such danger, she undertook and went in cycle lane, any news on what police will do. If that were a cyclist the Daily Mail would have a field day.

I’ve been involved in a case recently and it took 2 years to resolve. I got £13k as broke both my feet and had a major op

This woman is veering in trouble for driving without due care/careless. The police are doing an investigation as she had just gone through a speed camera zone and hopefully was too fast. We were in a 20mph zone. If she was on the phone or speeding we have a good case. We have witnesses. The old lady behind me is suing as she has broken teeth and her chin was in a right state.

I am waiting on the police report before pursuing anything.

When I broke my feet I should of got a lot of money as I had to learn to walk again and the pain was unbearable for two years and nearly had half my foot amputated but the doc saved it. I had an old football injury on that foot and the courts ruled that the crash may have aggravated the old injuries. We all know it didn’t but in court that’s what they came up with hence only getting £13k. My finger has been broken before so I can’t see me getting hardly any compensation. I want my bike frame resprayed or replaced as it’s scratched but I doubt I will get much else from this.

I used to do that until I found out it can effect you in court if suing

I hit a van a couple of months ago that cut in front of my lane. I didn’t damage anything apart from a few scratches. I kicked the guys wing in but someone held me back from going for the driver. I’m learning to chill now but I have kicked off a fair few times over the years. I was a head case living in Manchester but the London roads are a lot more cycle friendly and that’s calmed me down and age helps

Couldn’t hold back. Once is more than enough to be in an accident.

Cycle lanes are for bikes, not cars. Would be making sure my frame and groupset needed replacing on the claim against her.
