How much have United earned in prize money since Fergie left.

More than City?

We make our money legitimately through our hard earned revenue streams. If anything, we are massively hindered by our terrible owners who extract hundreds of millions from the club.

You receive dodgy funding directly from your state backed owners, who are so morally questionable in other aspects of their lives, its sickening.

Then you try to laud it over other teams when you actually win a trophy or two proclaiming some sort of footballing genius?!

No wonder the world hates your plastic mess of a club.

It resembles nothing of the club that was once Manchester City.

Good article.

It's true, City initially went in and spent a lot of money, paying massive fees. However recently they have been pulling out of deals if clubs have tried to bend them over. Whilst it's not explicitly true that only record fees inflate the market, it is close to the truth and therefore the likes of Chelsea, PSG, Madrid, Barca and United are the main culprits.

You make your money by targetting the poorest people in developing countries and use slick advertising to fool them into thinking you're still a top club in this country.

Give me legititimate prize money over having an 'Official Tampon Partner' in Papua New Guinea any day.

City spent a truck load on absolute journeymen and gave them wages that was more than many top players were earning.

The likes of Barry, Bellamy, Roque Santa Cruz, Lescott, Toure, SWP, Adebayor.

This raised the bar for bog standard, bang average players earning stupid wages.

The majority of players mentioned in the OP were at least players of ability or reputation coming from other big clubs.

Walker was £45m.
Mendy was £50m.
Danilo was £26m.
Zinchenko was £1m - better bargain than Robertson I might add.

Barry, Toure and Lescott were an important part of our Title winning team of 2012.

SWP was bought back off Chelsea for a fraction of what they paid us for him.

The majority of players in the OP also contributed to plenty of trophies at their clubs, and had done at their previous clubs.

The same can't be said for the likes of the City players mentioned. No actual reason to justify paying them the sort of money they earned at the time or the transfer fees.

Do 76 million for two players that played what, 15 games last season?

Ox cost £40m but played 0 minutes.

Barry was worth every penny for us. Kolo justified higher wages based on his achievements at Arsenal, he was a top bracket cb there, never really recovered from that bout of illness though. Lescott not the most glamorous of signings, not 100% why we were so desperate to sign him.

If anything it’s the players like Wayne Bridge where we really wasted money. Every top Prem club has had their fair share of overpaid duds though

SWP was bought prior to the takeover. He shouldn’t even be mentioned here.

City bought some duds. Every club has. Santa Cruz definitely falls into this category. Adebayor is contentious. I never rated him personally and wished we never signed him.

Barry and Toure most definitely weren’t duds. Nor were they overpriced. Barry cost £12m. Toure £25m.

Lescott did command a big fee £25m, and a case can be made that it was too much, but he was a good player for us. As was Bellamy.

I personally wouldn’t regard these players as bog standard.

Mark Hughes has a lot to answer for in regards to the players he actively wanted.
