He was incredibly poor last season and will get a wage rise off the back of it

If he can recapture form of previous years i'm sure no one will bat an eyelid but if he carries on like last season, this will be another huge mistake.

By what standard was he “incredibly poor”?

Wonder how much slabhead will be getting?

Wage bill at united is getting seriously out of control.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Although we have the highest wage bill in the PL, we have one of the smallest wage bill:turnover ratios. Much lower than Liverpool’s, for example.

It’s less catchy, but “wage bill:turnover ratio” can definitely be the new “net-spend” argument.

It's gone down since OGS took over.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only because you haven’t made the champions league, add in that commercial revenue from sponsors has gone down as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah, it's gone down irrespective of the 'no CL' contract clauses. 3 big earners have left, Young took a pay cutility to stay. That more than covers the new contracts that have been doled out so far. Wage bill is down.

.....

Really? The figures posted for the second quater of 2019 tell you they have gone up.

Good news, we need De Gea focused again and sorting his future out should do this. He’s still an incredible keeper despite how things went last season.

Anyone think that De Gea is just a great shot stopper should probably go watch another sport. Football clearly isn't for them.

Is that what happens when a utility player accepts less money?

In answer to one of the cretins above.

I would imagine he is getting a pay rise because he is the only player at the club who had justifiably earned one over the length of his last contract.

There is no debate here really.

Both Mata and Young took a pay cut and both Valencia and Herrera left. Add that Fellaini left in January, of course we're paying less than we did 5th is time last summer.

But other than that, our wage bill is out of control.

Maybe incredibly poor is harsh but he had a number of error-strewn performances, he looked like the De Gea of 2011 at times.

He was still one of the best keepers in the league over 38 games.
