Great input.
I could take him or leave him personally. He would not be a guaranteed starter anymore but would be a good option to have. And he would probably be raring to go again and put the last 18 months behind him.
Never look back, only forward.
Auto...u dont want bale then?
Not really.
Check the tranny thread.
A guy who has looked well short for 2 years at Barca and will command a huge fee still and massive wages.
It seems like a gamble, his confidence looks shot and you could end up having to move him on again at a big loss if he can't turn it around and mentality seems to be an issue.
I think Liverpool would be better moving on. It seemed Klopp wanted Fekir, surprised that hasn't looked like being back on. Usually when he is set on a target he is really set.

Looks set to be going to Betis now despite having a decent season with Lyon, probably says the fears over his knee are serious if no other big clubs are in for him.
Most committed player ever...not!
Sent an email to Klopp to tell him that he's off to sunny Spain and these bin-dippers want him back!
The guy who left signed a long term contract and then jumps ship six months later and couldn't even command a starting place!
Welcome son!

The club set up the new contract because they knew he was off. It’s a way to maximise the transfer fee.

tbh a lot of great players in the last decade have looked lost at barce under a certain players shadow, countinho was brilliant for Liverpool but the way they play now he defo wouldn't be a 1st choice in that team and the type of fee barce would be looking for I don't think Liverpool would pay that much for a squad player now imo
At what point does Valverde take some blame?
It's not just Coutinho who hasn't played this best under him. In fact there is quite a long list.
I'm amazed how people don't think Coutinho would be first choice for us. He would be the missing piece as the furthest of the three midfielders, the guy creating the chances and giving us the missing threat from long range.
Granted Keita was brought in to give us some of that and he has showed some real glimpses that he can provide it but he can also play other roles which would give us more flexibility in the squad.
Coutinho would also give us an option from the left that we don't have, in certain games.
Won't happen my dude, also doesn't make sense if we also have Oxlade-Chamberlain and Shaqiri, as well as Keita.
Not totally convinced it would be a good idea, but might be worth it just for the quality of his free kicks

Sometimes it's wise to just say nothing.
If the deal is right for us it's a no brainer for me to take him back.
He scores goals from midfield and having a player if his quality in the squad is a good thing.
Imagine we're at home dominating a game but can't get a goal and cout is an option on the bench...

A bit like Charlie Adams corners
To get him on a 2 year loan with option to buy would be some fantastic business from us. We hold all the cards and the player will really have a point to prove. Klopp knows what he's doing so I have faith in his judgement.
Think he'll more or less be competition/rotation with Keita and to a lesser degree Shaq playing AM role in the side
In 2 years the £88m may look cheap especially if transfer fees keep spiralling. Neymar could break the world record again now he's angling for a move and this will directly affect the market
In 2 years he will be 29
FSG surely wouldn’t pay £80 odd million for someone that age
I still think it's difficult to go back into a dressing room and convince the rest of the team you're in the fight with them and believe in the direction of the club when you were willing to walk away 2 years earlier thinking the grass was greener. Even more difficult when the team you left has really moved on without you.
This reminds me a little of the debates about whether we should resign Owen when it became clear he was leaving RM. My opinion at the time is that you don't go back when a player has moved on and I think I'd stick with that view now.
Personally I think I'd pass on Coutinho.

Can't agree with this, you're looking at this with the emotion of a fan and not in the eyes of a professional footballer.
Why would his teammates begrudge him a move to Barca? I'm sure they wanted him to stay but they also fully understood his desire to move to Barca.
It happens often in business where people leave a company and come back again.
If the idea that he left therefore he shouldn't be allowed back is the only reason you think we shouldn't sign him then you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.
He's absolute quality and makes us a better squad.

I really don't think a normal business and a football team bears much comparison. The team spirit and ethos in elite level sport are one of the marginal gains coaches and managers look to, in normal business that is exceptionally rare.
It's not about whether he should be allowed back, it's whether he'd be accepted back by the group. He left seeking success, it didn't go well and so he comes back, presumably as a top earner and a leader in the squad without a problem? It's possible obviously but I think it's difficult.
How many players have ever returned to their previous club and enjoyed even similar levels of success? I can think of some that have done ok but that's about it. The return move is a rare thing anyway which would indicate to me that managers generally are wary of it.
Coutinho is still an exceptional player and if we did bring him back, it could work out fantastically. Given how we've played since he left and the obvious unity within the squad, it's not a risk I'd take. Personal opinion and if it's a risk you'd take then I'd understand why, there are great upsides.
Ian Rush for a start.
Again i think you think the players think like fans and assume he will be a big problem morale wise because the players have the hump over him leaving. Just can't see this being the case. He had the chance to go to Barca and he took it, many players would do the same if given the chance.
I do see your point but i think he's a decent fella, will still be friendly with the sqaud and all he needs to do to win fans over is score a winner.
