The thing with Newcastle is that their fans have an over estimated opinion of where they are in the grand scheme of things.

They haven't won anything of note in my life time other than the pre runner to the UEFA cup in 69.

Heard a rumour that Ashley enforces that transfers are structured to be paid in full by Newcastle, but received from other clubs in installments.

Helps to make the books look worse off than they actually are in terms of cash flow, meaning expectations can be kept low..

To have Rafa replaced by Steve Bruce is the ultimate kick in the nuts. Ashley is just out and out wumming the Newcastle fans now, he’s not even pretending anymore.

I know a couple of Newcastle fans and they're utterly realistic about their place in the footballing world.

As one of the 20 richest clubs in the world however, personally I don't think it's unreasonable to think they can compete at a higher level than avoiding EPL relegation. And I certainly think they have the right to be p'ed off that the money the club makes isn't put back into the team. I would be if I were a fan.

Can't see Ashley selling the cash cow though.

Aye, Bruce has to get off to a strong start and they’ve got Arsenal, Norwich, Spurs, Watford and Liverpool in their first five games, they could be bottom with one point after all that...
