Leicester obviously think he's worth a lot. Because it's looking likely he will be playing for you next season when you could have had 60 to 70 million. So they think he's more than average.

It seems I’m one of the few that wants this transfer to happen, I’ve always been impressed whenever I’ve seen him and he seems a leader too which we are in dire need of. The price quoted is mad but I really couldn’t care, I will happily leave the net spend bragging rights to Spurs fans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’d like it to happen too.

I think he’d be one of our best players straight away tbh, and dont get all the hate.

The quoted fee is crazy, but I’d rather the club spend on players than have money sit in the bank and finish 6th again.

We splashed a lot on a defender called Rio, once.

There were people on the old BBC 606 who were raging.

I actually think you were one of them VC.

.................

I very much doubt it. We had signed Rio two years before I joined the BBC 606.

Of course DDG isn't irreplaceable, the comparison is valid, but we do Rashford if you prefer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The comparison isn’t remotely valid. You’re taking the best goalkeeper in world football and saying us letting Maguire go is on the same level. He’s not even our best player.

Of course they do - but they know he isn’t VVD. That’s why if the right offer came in (a stupid one) they would sell him. Totally different story with Mahrez who basically had to get to 18 months left on his contract and even then we blocked any move in January when the money was good.

I think that’s a fair point.

We fans argue about player values all the time, but to some extent it’s irrelevant. It’s all about the buyers willingness to pay like anything else in life.

Trying to look at this objectively I’d say that Maguire’s true worth in today’s market is probably somewhere in the region of: £40-45m. His value to Leicester, however, is much higher as a regular starter. If they lose him they will probably have to source a replacement and also pay Hull some of the fee. Factoring this in you’d probably say that £60m+ is a fair offer. It’s what we got for Mahrez who was, for a while, our only creative outlet and much more important to the team.

I guess £60-70m should be a price we’d all agree to shake hands on and move on, but the other factor here is ambition. If Leicester role over too easily here then it gives a message to others who might want players like Maddison, Tielemans or Chilwell. Holding out for an extortionate fee would at least make the big clubs think twice before they come sniffing.

The value is also determined by his contract status. He has 4 years left. We don’t need to sell him so we can demand silly money. Ed will pay it.....

Or you can keep an average player and lose, say, 65 million. .

Well that’s why I would rather we sold him. I wouldn’t say he was average - he’s good. But no better than a number of other good centre backs.

You’ll notice Leicester fans aren’t exactly panicking about the transfer. We all know he’s good on his day, however he’s had a very average season for me

I am one of many Leicester fans that DO NOT want Maguire to leave. One of the best centre backs we have had for years and integral to the passing game we have been trying to adopt under Puel and now Rodgers. Played 20 games for England since joining us and looked the best CB in that team too.

Yes, he has some faults but what defenders don't, except maybe VVD?

He's only 26, he's English, he's a leader and a fine player who will only get better. I would offer him the captaincy at Leicester to entice him to stay for another year or so.

Money being bandied around for players these days is stupid but really what's it got to do with us as fans?

He's a top player and whichever team he starts for in August will be better for having him

I haven’t heard many Leicester fans wax this lyrical about Maguire. Infact that’s by far the most positive praise you’ll see on this board.

He’s a good player but he’s far from being an elite centre back. He’s not fit to lace VVDs boots right now. What is he is a good leader on the pitch l, strong in the air and very good on the ball.

But I don’t that’s enough to cover some very glaring weaknesses that have left us really exposed in defence at times. No pace, little understanding of what’s behind him and has a tendency to lose the ball high up the pitch and not recover.

I honestly think he had a very ordinary season after a very good World Cup campaign but recent England matches have highlighted again how poor defensively he can be. Because he’s so good on the ball he completely gets away with it

All about opinions BS. I accept that there are several Leicester fans on here who have doubts about him, but I know of many who rate him as highly as I do.

It would be boring if we all agreed all of the time though

Makes me laugh when people say this.

Looked at your TV bill lately? Bought the club shirt lately? How about food and drink for the family?

How people can't equate the rising cost of players with the rising costs for fans is beyond me.

I am not opposed to paying top dollar for the right player. The fee bandied around for a player that is marginally better than Rojo is ridiculous

It is indeed. I’d certainly say the majority of fans on our board aren’t overly bothered about losing him but accept there are Leicester fans who rate him very highly.

At Leicester my ST price has increased once in 10 years, and not at all in the last 4 or 5 years. It is TV money that is fuelling the rising cost of players and their wages, not prices at the turnstile.

The cost of watching premier league football live (outside of London) has been coming down in real terms. At less than £27 a game for an excellent seat between the half way line and the penalty area it is very good value and is now less than watching first class rugby and much less than the theatre etc.

Matchday revenue only represents 18% of LCFC's turnover and I would hazard that this is similar at most premier league clubs. The link between players' salaries and transfer fees and the cost to fans of following the club is tenuous at best.

Yep, which is why I didn’t include tickets in my post.

It’s not a tenuous link at all. TV money comes from fans!

Amazing that you dismiss it as some sort of magic money tree that doesn’t affect fans.

Winston is right. There is a correlation between the fans (paying for Sky and BT sports) and the amount that players go for in the PL. The huge revenues PL clubs earn from us fans in terms of subscriptions and merchandise is the reason they can shell out ridiculous money for players and the rest of Europe generally can’t (aside from the likes of Barca and PSG etc)

We are all mugs!

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens when Amazon enter the market properly.

Every chance we’ll see Sky, BT etc go under in the next five years imo.

Would love to get rid of sky. Awful compressed picture,l quality, still no HDR, and ridiculously overpriced

I know a guy who’s son plays in the Under 23s at Leicester and word around the club is the deal is done at £80 million.

Time will tell if it’s a reliable source I guess!
