It’s not naive to think a player would take a pay cut to leave for regular football - happens a lot.

Not from 500k down to whatever some Chinese club is offering.

Well yes, he’d need to see the financial benefits of moving to China.

But it’s perfectly credible to think he’d take a pay cut to join a top club where he’d get regular football.

Imagine giving up a very nice sized house per week.

And if he loves Golf so much, he could end up with a career in that.

He's had top level football, like Rooney did, since he was 16 or 17ish, so maybe burn-out is on the cards. Long seasons as well. Doesn't skip internationals.

Interested to see what deal bale goes on if he leaves. After his agents comments over the last six months, and Bale apparently saying he'd sit his deal out and play golf, my opinion on him went down. 29 years old, 3-4 years max of being able to play at the very top end of the game. Why wouldn't you take a pay cut and still get 200k a week but be playing every week?

Agree with this, although a imagine a lot of that was just frustration coming out.
