Bamford and goalscoring chances

I do think Bamford is a decent striker at this level

Do fear a section of fans are starting to turn on him.
For his own sake he needs to start the season well

If the fans back him his confidence will rise and the goals will follow.
I cannot understand fans who boo there own players, it's foolish and counter productive, you might as well start cheering the opposition.

It feels a bit like the situation Chris Wood found himself in after his first season. He scored the overhead kick cupped his hand to his ear(fair play to him on that) in that early game and never looked back after that.

I don't expect him to reach those levels but the template for a striker doing that in his second season is there. It would be nice if those 'fans' laid off him but I won't hold my breath.

I agree Best. I also get the feeling MB feels same.
He already said its a confidence thing for Bamford.
I think we'll see best of him and Kiko this season.
More time with MB and staff will do it.

Agreed! It’s obvious to those who know anything about football that he is an intelligent striker who knows where and when to make runs.

I listened to him on Radio Leeds last Tuesday and he said he’s still adjusting to how Bielsa wants him to play. He knows he needs to start scoring ASAP but like all good strikers he believes in his own ability.

With a Roofe’s foot in plaster and the possibility of him being out for a few weeks it looks like Bamford will be the lone striker with maybe Edmundson breathing down his neck.

I can’t see us buying anyone else up top.

Fans need to get behind him not undermine him. Some are too thick to know the difference though.

Roofe has a leg brace not plaster!

I think he can come good but possibly difficult to fit into a system.

Unfortunately I don’t share the same optimism about Harrison, think he will continue to miss far too many chances.

Expected goals is a stat that works out the ‘quality’ of chances based in a number of factors. Our expected goals was the highest in the league but our actual goals wasn’t. Norwich were the other way round with significantly more goals than expected.

That’s efficiency. They took their chances we didn’t. With respect to Bamford you could say he takes up good positions, or you could say he plays in a team that creates expected goal Opportunities for him. It’s likely a bit of both, but definitely a lot of the latter.

I though he was disappointing and missed a bunch of sitters... but he may not have been fully fit.

Whichever, it’s no reason to boo him. He wasn’t trying to miss them. Booing players is totally counterproductive to the player and consequently the team.

Agree with a lot of comments. Side makes a good point about Bamford and needing to have a good start. I think he's just shot confidence wise and think he might struggle.

With Roofe in a leg brace, Bamford needs to sharpen up or else we need to sign someone else. We sold 20 million pounds worth of players, lets go and get Maupay or even Morelos

Bang on.

No player should have their own fans booing them.

Didn't watch the game live but watching the highlights I saw little to concern me about either striker in front of goal, Roofe hit the upright and on another day would have scored either directly or as an in off, Bamford was only denied by a wonder save. Idiots need to shut the feck up and start getting behind the boys, neither is Billy Painter.

Promotion you are doing my head in, Harrison will be close to our player of the year. He's 21 and a fantastic acquisition. Why do you have be so negative all the time?

posted on 21/7/19

Elsbels I just said that I think Bamford will probably come good, is that negative?
As for Harrison I don’t think he will come good.
Looks pretty, delivers next to nothing.
I hope I’m wrong.

He’s a clever player in the final third, and his touch and build up play is usually decent.

When he’s on form, I’m sure he’ll bag a flurry of goals.

But on the whole he hasn’t impressed me. Missed a lot of sitters, and definitely isn’t a better fit for us than Roofe.

There are some games (like the Derby game) where he’s literally useless.

Would rather play Roberts.

Pro, Jack has been one of a few playing well in pre season, I think other than Pablo our best player. I didn't comment at all on your views on Pat Bamford, my felling is there is a good striker who is maybe trying a bit too hard as he has parts of the ER crowd on his back. They, not you, need to shut the feck up. Most strikers go through lean periods and people giving him a hard time doesn't help. He will come good.

I do think Roofe just seems a bit more mobile up front. But if Bamford isn't a good fit for this team, it doesn't make much sense that he is getting a lot of chances. Surely the fact that he has been on the end of these great chances, shows he works well within the team?

Roofe was very ineffective in the second half of the season, 1 goal in 8 games after xmas till his injury. He was getting a lot less chances than Bamford

In't it good that some "must" try the wind up card whenever they have a bad day?..

Promotion, Harrison will be one off our better players this season, hopefully he gets a good contract with us!..

Nice setup for the goal against the Aussies!..

If that's correct then his goal scoring rate ain't that bad, and he was out a lot off the season with injury!..

Last season I was a big critic of Bamford - increasingly so in the second half – but I'm going to wipe the slate clean and give the guy a chance to prove himself. There's no doubt he gets himself into scoring positions, he just can't execute. He even says himself he's fully aware that half the Leeds fans are unhappy with him, so he has a lot to prove. Let's give him a bit of breathing space and if he bags a few early on, we could see a different Bamford this season.

i like the chances that bamford gets. he's missing lots of shots where it seems harder to miss than score.
these are bound to start going in. always liked harisson,
think he's on a upward trajectory.
not sure about costa but really looking forward to seeing him play. oh and booing your own players can't help the team as a whole.

The last time I’ll say it before the season starts.

Bamford isn’t good enough.

Wingers we have other than Costa are not good enough. (I’m hoping Pablo plays through the centre)

That’s going forward.

At the back a new CB (I’d like two) and a GK

Bamford is useless .We cannot keep depending on him to score. He must have missed twenty goalie and at 40000 a week enough is enough.Admittedely he gets into good positions but ifhe can't takethe chances what's the use.Iwish we could get rid but with a contract that he has no chance.Nobody wanted him whenLeeds signed him

"He fought to get Bielsa in, has worked wonders with our youth squad, got £10m for Clarke who we still have access to in our squad, got Douglas for a bargain, got Costa effectively on a free until we (hopefully) get promoted when the transfer fee won’t matter and sold Ekuban, Sacko and (soon) Saiz for a profit.

Have a day off mate."
