I just don’t see any scenario playing out where Harry Maguire is a good signing for £80m.

Yet you've somehow managed to keep this to yourself

I think he’ll improve us, together with AWB, and DDG hopefully on a new contract our defence looks good now imo.

It's looking promising. Enjoying seeing the team Ole is building. Good English core too.

You’ve been mugged off with the fee. He’s got strengths in the air and on the ball but he’s little pace and poor awareness.

There will be a big party in Leicester when the money arrives in the bank for him to attend
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He'll be a bargain according to united fans if he joins and has manages to play a few decent pre season friendly games.

United fans, or just Matth.

in all seriousness ive only ever been impressed when i've seen him play, his only real weakness is pace. Every defender gets beat at some point or makes a mistake or has bad form. Think hes a solid player doesnt shy away takes responsibility, will be a big threat at set pieces if VAR cracks down on the holding and blocking in the box too. Price is crazy sure but hes quite a bit better than what Utd have got atm thats for sure, still young for a cb too and English.

He's no Toby or Vert but he's a decent CB for this league.

Who is someone who would have been better who you could have got?

Jonny Evans apparently.

We could actually sign Leicester’s best cb. And we let him go because he wasn’t good enough.

he got too tight to salah once and got done cause Salah is deceptively strong and then obviously not gna catch him after that. Last season he equalised vs us after escaping a red card last man situation and was a rock for them and key to earning them their point. we've seen the threat slab ed was at set pieces for Eng too especially with VAR backing him up and hes decent on the ball too. Not seen enough of this positioning stuff Lesta fans blame him for or lack of concentration, but if true why cant it be highlighted or worked on? like i said 26 is still young for a CB who peak closer to their 30s.

As an Arsenal fan you have to think is he better than Jones, Smalling, Rojo and any other CB you currently have?

The answer is yes he is.
Him and Wan Bikasso will greatly improve your defence and if Shaw sorts himself out you just might be good in defence.

IMO he's not VVD level and he's not world class but he is a very good player. Fee is probably £20Mil too high but he is English which automatically adds £10+ Mil onto the fee.

£50-60Mil would have been a fair price given the currently stupid market.

Would Real Madrid say no to a £80Mil bid for Varane who is top class?

I'd lack concentration too playing for Leicester, be too busy pondering where it all went wrong.

Yeah defenders can improve even in their late 20's. Vert for us has probably been at his best since he turned 30, and all United's defenders are under 30. He could form a decent partnership with Smalling or something for a few years.

I would hope that we'd see sense in 1) not letting him go and 2) not letting him go to a fellow rival.

I found it very puzzling that Guardiola to have such a strong interest in such a slow CB. I wonder if City's interest was ever genuine, or if they and Leicester have played Ed like a fiddle.

Hope for you lot it works out better than last time you beat City to signing a big name.

They bought Stones and Maguire would be an upgrade on him so I think the interest was real.

I think Maguire is easily better than Stone (Joke player) and Ottamendi + Kompany has gone so they definitely wanted him.

melton was saying they wanted a cb that is good in the air, but £80m for a player that will only be of use for certain games can’t be justified.

we had £80m to spend on a defender and the best we could come up with from a global pool of talent is Harry Maguire?

This has got to be a sick joke surely. I thought Ole was building a team with a bit of pace.

This makes more sense. However good he might be in other situations, Maguire could be terribly exposed in a side that plays so high.

There were no enquiries from City apparently. Wasn’t there a video released of Pep saying Maguire is slow during a City team talk and pin pointing him as a weak spot?
