Luke Ayling has had surgery on an ankle problem. No exact timescale for comeback yet but not expected to be long-term. #lufc

Not expected to be long term.

Agree completely. Cant believe we cant even be bothered to sign a 1 or 2 million pound centre back to cover the inevitable Cooper and Berardi injuries when we've sold 20 million pounds worth without including any fees for Rose and BPF. Even a loan signing wouldn't hurt. Brum have signed England U21 captain Clarke Salter, pretty sure we finished 3rd last season, not them.

Radz,= 'penny wise pound foolish'.(as my Irish mother used to say). No Jansson, no Ayling, huge loss...

Is this like when Brown was going to be ready for Jan?

One game, two games, 14 games, however many
games he's out, we'll miss him massively.

Dont mind having to use dallas or shakelton to cover at rb but what worries me is what happens if cooper gets injured we are left with a rookie and either philips or berardi covering and its the loss of height more than anything. Cant believe season about a week away and we have 3 first team players injured already and no one is addressing the lightness of our squad. Yes i know MB likes a small squad but obviously his training methods pushes players limits to the edge and injuries are always gonna happen never mind tackles on the pitch from the like of that clown young. Radz is happy with a small squad as it keeps his money in his pocket but when you look at 90% of our business was shipping out ortas deadwood maybe if he wanted to save money should have kicked him into touch as dont seem to do much to earn his money

I think Berardi will be ok in his natural position of RB. Hard to see where else to play the fooker because he's crap at CB. Too much of a short ar$e. Shack can also play RB.

Bryce Hosannah ain’t far off

Not just the fact he’s unavailable for X amount of games, it’s the fact that a first choice defender is missing from an already uncertain defence.

We need our starting back 5 to be playing from the get go and build confidence/relationships with each other. Very concerned.

I think LDL has it spot on here.it's a brutal 46 game season and injuries can come along right from the get go so deal with it now while we can do something about it rather than wait for a crisis to happen.

Aside from being short on bodies at the back we are short full stop and can see teams really targeting that.maybe the club has an ace up their sleeve but if it doesn't get addressed it would be a huge mistake.

Starting to despair at the attitude shown with regard to the shortcomings of the first team squad.

It's not unreasonable to expect the strongest starting eleven to be available in the first game.

This never happened in Don's days or Wilko's. If it did it was a rarity and the exception rather than the rule. If the players are being so tightly wound as to be susceptible to injuries at the slightest stretch then it has to be too much.

If that's the way we are going, then we need a bigger, more experienced squad. Youngsters can only do so much.

Look at Clarke last season. A couple of promising games, a couple of goals. Collapses with a virus and was non-existent when he eventually came back. Not his fault though. Perhaps too much was expected from a young player still developing physically as well as to the demands of first team football.

Ultimately, it's negligence by the owners and stubbornness by MB not to mitigate for the potential effects of the latter's demanding training methods.

You would have thought lessons would have been learned when analysing last season.

Evidently not.

OR,

MB and team have seen something in certain U23s
coming through (Struijk, Hosannah, McCalmont, Bogusz, Edmondson) and believe they'll be big contributors? It's obvious White is going to feature.

There's one thing, MB does things his own way.
I know I wouldn't swap him for any other manager.
Looking forward to seeing what we do under him
this time around.

The last thing you want is Ayling filling in as a central defender or indeed anyone filling in.
Ayling at his best is a fantastic right back not a central defender.
Go and buy 2 central defenders if you want promotion.
