Look at it from our perspective.

Over spend on a player or watch the Glazers pocket the cash.

He’s deffo worth more than £40 million

We got AWB who has barely played top flight football and we paid £50 million

Maguire is an important part of a side who made the World Cup semi finals and is what we need.

I agree he’s worth nowhere near that.
But if you believe the rumours, Leicester are to replace him with Dunk for £45m and Brighton are after some £20m rated lower league player to replace Dunk?

If you look at it like that, Maguire at £80m would probably be the best value out of the 3 of them, in a strange way!

£80m for that Carthorse

AWB has already proven to be an excellent right back and we can get at least 10 years out of him.

Maguire will never be world class and I dread to think what his pace will be like in 4 years when he turns 30.

He’s worth 40m with the Brexit tax included

It’s impossible to say what a player is worth really - Sheff Utd have just bought a player I’ve barely heard of for £20 million.

The problem I have is that he’s not right.

Too slow.

Which is a massive concern for a team who apparently want to play high tempo, high pressing football. I can’t believe Ole doesn’t see that.

£80m on someone who resembles a wardrobe when he’s running

Fvck me

Not all that important about pace as a CB, as long as you have good positioning and are decent at reading the game.

So it's ok, as Maguire

...oh f*ck

He’s no slower than Gerard Pique who played in Peps high energy side

If set up correctly you can have a slower CB playing in there - it’s not always about pace no matter what this site would have you believe.

England played a pretty high energy style at the World Cup and pressed and Maguire was part of that

You don’t have to be quick to play a high tempo, high pressing game

It tends to involve a high line so yes, you do need to have pace.

It’s why John Terry never played in a high line and when AVB tried to implement one it all went wrong.

You can be a good defender but be wrong for a system and I’m convinced that is the case here.

Maguire has proven to be good, AWB had an excellent season for Crystal Palace.

You won’t find anybody on here who will call Maguire a better player than AWB but you’ve already chosen Maguire as a favourite so I expect to see dozens of articles from you defending him if he flops.

For the record I hope Maguire makes me eat my words.

Buy other players that better suit the requirements Ole seems to want to play from elsewhere.

Reduce a massive chunk of debt so that in future we have even more money to spend on transfers for the right players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s the thing though, Ole obviously thinks Maguire is the guy for him and suits his system. We either over spend on him or go for a cheaper second option.

As for servicing debt, the Glazers obviously don’t want to do that. I think we’re stuck with it for a very long time.

IMO we only have to options, spend or give it to the Glazers.

No you don’t. Is Matip quick, are Alderweireld or Vertonghen quick? Was kompany quick? Or Laporte?
