DM has taken on a tough ask. I'm thinking a slow start to the season for Rovers but confident of mid table at least. So I'll go 1-1, Sadlier.

Don, the transfer in window for L1 and L2 clubs doesn’t close until the end of August.

As always Hound, I am grateful to you for correcting me; now you point it out, I vaguely recall reading this some time ago. The extra time will be decidedly useful. Again, drawing on memory, I think there is a relationship between this and the date by which PL clubs announce their squads which isolates those players who are surplus to first team requirements and therefore available for loan etc.

It is good news for us.

Doncaster Rovers are close to signing Wolves duo Niall Ennis and Cameron John on loan. More than close now I believe in the case of John

I see McCann is lining up Ben Whiteman as one of his next targets. I also see that Hull City are tipped by many for relegation this coming season. Having named him as Captain here it will be an interesting test of his character to see how he reacts. However, I hope the club do not make it easy for McCann. First of all it would seriously deplete our strength to the extent that it would be bordering on the irresponsible to even consider an offer, given the other departures.

For once, let us have no talk of "standing in his way" and instead let him reflect on McCann's advice which really amounted to consolidating his form here before moving on at the first chance to any old club that came calling. In doing so Ben would be heeding the advice that McCann himself was putting out a couple of months ago.

And the last manager that we had who moved on without really consolidating his credentials at League 1 level found it tougher than he expected and has not successfully sustained managerial employment anywhere since failing in the Championship.

Put a minimum of 5mill on Whiteman, 2.5yrs left on his contract, just been made captain, big season ahead for him. Hes only 23 and still learning, but, under DM he could become an even better player.
Still think we're a team that's going to surprise alot of pundits. Love it, just love it, when they say we are going to finish in bottom 6/7 😂

Ennis also signed but looks a bit injury prone. Two broken legs and a serious knee injury and hes only 20! If hes as good as Alick should be a problem

Hi All,
We're a bit of an unknown quantity at the minute , with the three late, late additions to our squad. Darren Moore using his Midlands knowledge hopefully to good use. As long as we beat Steve Evans I don't care.
Rovers 2-1. Ben Whiteman to score.

I was going for a draw, but will say 2-1 to the Rovers with Sadlier scoring (if he does not start, Whiteman).

I have not had any more comments on the scoring system, although I see my predecessor floated the idea of 5 points for the correct scorer, but with only 3 for score and correct result.

On the subject of scores, if you think about 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 plus the reverse you have 6 options, none of them unusual, 2-1 and 3-1 are common as are the reverse making 10 and then we have 0-0, 1-1 and 2-2 and we are up to 13 without mentioning more scores with 3 and 4 in the number. This is clearly more difficult than predicting the result and perhaps at first sight this seems more difficult than naming a scorer. But when narrowed to the “scorer of the first goal” it becomes more of a challenge. So, I have decided, subject to any strong objections to settle on 3 for the result and 4 for each of the score and the scorer of the first goal. 5 instead of 10 will be the all-correct bonus.

Sadlier was quite a popular choice for the first and only goal and Nookie begins with 100%.

We seem set for some excitement on the subject of squad assembly. Hull are said to benefit considerably from the transfer of Maguire, but we surely cannot do without Whiteman and I wonder where we are looking for a replacement for Marquis. I suppose there must be a few likely lads on the fringes of the Midlands Championship and PL teams, a scene with which DM will know well, who could still become available for loan, but it does seem a bit late to get anyone really useful in on a permanent basis.
