Booing the national anthem

That wasn’t during the war. That was in 1933.

She wasn’t queen in 1933. She was 6-7 years old in 1933.

So I have to ask, how did you arrive at the conclusion that the whole royal family supported Hitler DURING the war?

There’s a video on YouTube of a guy on a bus racially abusing people. Trying to justify his abuse, he says that his 70 year old grandad had fought in the Second World War.

This video took place in 2018. Meaning his grandad was born in 1947-48!

Automatic, was that you on the bus?

No. And here’s the thing.

I never gave a Na zi salute as a child or as an adult.

She’s German too. Go figure.

The history of our future monarch giving Na zi salutes?
I’m quite well up on it thanks.

Stop defending those parasites.

What did the na zi salute mean in 1933?

You’re so blindsided by hindsight.

This is simply ridiculous. Let’s go back to your claim of the whole family supporting hitler during the war.

THAT NEVER HAPPENED!

I have visited liverpool in the 80s when the facking witch was in power and the city was like a slump.
The facking tory right wing caants done absolutely nothing for the city.

Boris Johnson the russian, turkey( Turkish grandfather) PM with his anti mersyside views have added to the hate for the tory cockney caants.

The city has been improved since I went back many times after the rebuilding with europe 's money and the help of the Labour party.

Why would any proud liverpuldian sing a anthem about a German queen (I have nothing against Germans).

An anthem should be about the people and the beauty of the county.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The same happened with the other Northern cities. Wonder if they will boo when they get the chance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that’s up to them isn’t it? They can use their freedom of expression

That letter in the telegraph, it’s a good letter. It explains and gives reasons why Liverpool fans shouldn’t sing the national anthem. But choosing not to sing the anthem is different from choosing to boo the anthem.

Doing one is personal refusal to engage.

Doing the other means it becomes a protest.

I have no problem with either. But I do have to ask, if you want to boo, and thus protest, then what else are you doing?

When we have Brits burning flags, footballers shirts and such....freedom of expression.

It’s what the German monarchs we fought for wanted

That letter in the telegraph still doesn't really tell me why they booed IMO. OK, so we now get an idea that Liverpudlians/Scousers are unhappy with tories, money and brexit and therefore feel dissociated with Britain. Infact, as the letter says, most are not of English heritage and therefore have no loyalty to Britain.

With all the above said, I fail to see why booing the anthem is some kind of "protest". That anthem doesn't represebt any of the above. 48% of Britain supported remain. Probably the same proportion of that were MPs. The letter also states the anthem was changed by Scousers, that was well before brexit/the EU etc.

I suspect, as with all football fans, a couple of fans started the booing and then a lot more followed. They probably didn't really know why, although I'm sure a few did too. As with all football fans, every single fan from tbat set of supporters defend the actions of their fan base and now look for reasons why. There isn't one reason why so lots of reasons are crammed together to create one big reason. I come to this conclusion due to a few reasons. 1) proper protests are usually explained pre protest. This means it is clear what and why it is happening. 2) The City of Liverpool is not voiced by the club alone. But if we stick to just football, we notice that Everton, a club whos suporters should share the same thoughts, have not done the same.

Why are politics and the anthem being put into the same category?

What is clear is that Liverpool as a city apparently feel seperate from Britain, or dare I say England. The immigrant reason does not sit comfortably with me but that is just my opinion. The rest I sort of get but half of the country would echo those sentiments.

One thing I have learnt though, is that no matter what, and I literally mean no matter what, fans in particular will defend any action from their club/fans/players etc. Or it feels like that anyway.

I was there on Sunday and found it really odd when people started booing. I was with my Irish brother in law and he couldn't believe it. We just thought it was more of a protest against the country and how messed up things have become over Brexit etc.

Fair enough mate. Good to hear from a fan who was there. Seems perhaps it wasn't a majority but those who didn't boo didn't really understand why. Shows that this really wasn't a pre planned thing. Just the thoughts of a few done ad hoc during the moment.

She isnt German

Her great-great-grandfather was Prince Albert

After that theres more Danish in the family than German
----------------------------------------------------------------------
She’s German, he’s Greek, and they’re both on
f*cking benefits.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Like a large portion of career benefit workers who were shifted from unemployed to ‘disabled’ under Blair and have given us a benefit generation that drains the life out of this country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s bolox. The amount of money lost through benefit fraud is a pi55 in the wind compared to the amount lost through high level tax avoidance and tax evasion. Interestingly we only ever see programmes on Benefit Cheats on the telly though when it’s the latter draining the life out of this country.

It’s a lack of respect, plain and simple, and nothing to do with our head of state.

Liverpool was a sh!te-hole in the 80’s because of the chronic mismanagement of the city by individuals such as Derek Hatton whose policies bankrupted the city and only after being ousted by Neil Kinnock was Liverpool able to rebuild, and how well it has performed since.
You are always going to find a minority clinging onto the past with their whining self pity and self deprecating views, the majority do not, and would not support their actions during the national anthem.
