Wanted to tag Chelsea and Arsenal but it wouldn't let me.

I would've preferred Zouma tbh

Luiz doesn't seem the type of CB that Arsenal need. They need someone who is consistent and good.

Think Luiz might have worked under Emery at PSG, could be why he wants to go there.

Zouma has probably been our best defender in pre season, has his struggles playing the ball out but defensively he's been sound.

He’s not we wanted but he is the type of defender Emery likes. Ball playing cb that can play out, I’m suprised Emery has gone for him.

Just said on SSN, that Tierny is getting on a plane to sign for Arsenal. Looks like you are getting in a couple of defenders.

I've always had mixed feelings about him, on one hand a bit of a Rolls Royce of a footballer and all round athlete.

On the other hand always always susceptible to errors and totally rash challenges.

Despite his reputation as a bit of a dead ball specialist I've always felt he was more miss than hit as to whether he hits the target.

The main thing that I always warmed to him about was his apparent passion for Chelsea, now that veneer is being wiped away I can't think of many other redeeming things about him.

I think the main thing we'll miss about him is his experience in an awkward season and his ability to play out from the back.

That said if we can get a good fee for a 32 year old who's not really top drawer, it may not be the worst business in the world.

My only reservation about him going is if his destination is him going to the unmentionables from North London. Despite his limitations he'll still improve their creaking back line!

Luiz is much better than Zouma.

Could you do me a favour then? Get on the blower to Frank and recommend he sell Zouma to Everton instead of Luiz to Arsenal 👍🏼

This business has me sincerely worried for the coming season. First of all, the players had been talking about coming together under Lampard, and what a great atmosphere he had created. Well, maybe Lampard feels like he has to weed out the trouble-makers, and that Luiz was getting too big for his boots (which is possible). But let’s be honest, letting go of Luiz will not improve our squad - at least not this season. We are left with a back four of:
Azpilicueta - who presumably will be slower than last year. Hoping that James gets back to fitness soon.
Zouma - physically very strong, but technically not so much.
Christensen - technically strong, but not as good physically. Plus, I’m not convinced about his mentality yet.
Emerson - possibly better than Alonso, but nothing to write home about.
Our best defender is Rudiger who is currently injured. And Tomori is still around but has never played in the premier league.

And even though Luiz is 32, he will still strengthen Arsenal’s team - why do we keep trying to help our competitors? We were very nice to Cech, and allowed him to join Arsenal when he requested it - because of his years of great service to the club, and the promise that Abramovich made to Cech personally. Luiz does not fit into that same category. Sell him abroad, or make him play in the reserves if he causes a fuss. I would suggest selling him to Leicester as they need a centre back now too - but I fear they will be our competitor this year too!

This is a disaster selling Luiz to them.. hes our best defender by a long shot and we sell him to our closest rival!? Cause let's be honest.. we arent challenging for the league. I really hope this is BS because we'll all find out by tomorrow but I have a horrible feeling this is true and then the disaster season will begin on sunday at United..

Depends. I can't think of many worse potential CB pairings than Luiz & Mustafi. Unless Luiz reins himself in that has disaster written all over it with Mustafi's dreadful positioning.

This smacks of Arsenal/Emery going after what they want but not what they need, which has been a trend of theirs in the market for over a decade now.

Chill Van Ban, disaster was getting relegated three times to division two, Southampton 'B' winning the Champions League or selling Peter Osgood - losing an erratic Center Back on the last day of the transfer window is just a minor inconvenience!!

I'm with npe in thinking hes better than Zouma I do however feel Rudi was better last year and more consistent. Which makes Luiz our 2nd best CB at 32 so you would be expecting one of the young promising CBs to usurp him down the road.

And really his best attribute was his mentality in the dressing room and supposed commitment to our club, which is now very much in question.

Holding is probably Arsenal's best CB. Mustafi makes Phil Jones look like Rio. Sokaris is a decent player but at what they're aiming for, he should be back up. Luiz will no doubt improve them.

For Chelsea, this may hurt now but I think long term it would be the correct decision. Cech left for Arsenal past his best and I think Luiz will decline or at least not hit the heights as consistently he has done in the past (despite the mistakes he has in him now and then). Zouma isn't great but I think him and Christensen make up for what the other lacks. And when Rudiger is back he'll replace one of them.

That's a fair analysis

I think he should be first choice for us currently with Rudiger out but Lamps is definitely more towards giving young promising players the minutes from what's been seen at Derby

Not sure what this post is about. Rüdiger was not only our best cb by a mile last year, he was our best defender by a mile. Luiz was average last year

Is Holgate still an Everton player? We need to hold onto him if we can get a suitable replacement for Zouma.
Holgate is arguably better than some of the targets we're being linked to at the moment.
