A real shame it never worked. The man clearly knows football as much as anyone.
He will never change however. He was right in his analysis of Shaw yesterday, but the way he delivered it is the same same Jose the manager will deliver that analysis. Therein lies the problem.
the arrogance of jose
what i saw in that interview was a man trying to pitch the same idea he has for the last 18 years. Very eloquently. But do not mistake being eloquent for being right.
He has refused to adapt his so called principles to fit the players and changing times. That is why he has been sacked from his lat 3 jobs. So hearing him talk about other managers not adapting smacks of pot and kettle.
And hearing him praise city while factual makes me cringe. Seems a deflection tactic imo. Afterall, he and pep started at the same time.
None of the others will have the balls to ask any real questions of him, or maybe he's not allowed to discuss certain things yet.
Praise for City is much deserved, but someone should have asked him how Pep got it so right, after joining at the same time, with a similar budget, and signing a similar amount of players to Jose?
I would assume he could only point to Woodward, because he is not able to identify flaws with himself/his methods (otherwise why would he continue to be the same at every club).
Aside from Jose/United issues though, he was good on Sky, and will clearly be a level above other pundits in terms of analysis.

how many managers in the top flight of todays game aren't sacked? very few leave unless its mutual.
its a little unfair to compare him at united to pep at city, Jose thrives in a ready made environment that just needs his pragmatism to get them over the line, united needed and to an extent still need a overhaul from top down.
pep walked into a leadership that he knew, backed him and a project that was underway to his taste. I say that not to take away from pep but just to say I don't think you can compare the two really.

I love how souness took such offense to carragher saying 'principles' but didn't once interrupt Jose who said it 50 times

I think Souness has limited tactical knowledge about the game. It is always the same with guys like him and Keane. He knew his limits when he was listening to Mourinho.
it was hilarious seeing a real manager amongst clowns like neville and carragher. let's not even mention souness, he could not understand a single word jose said.
---------
It was so evident when Souness started to speak, each word was utter gibberish and wrong. Genuinely a dinosaur.
I would say Neville did well, a lot of his comments Mourinho agreed with.

I don’t think Mourinho’s understanding of the game is ever something that should be questioned, you don’t achieve what he has without having a without a wealth of knowledge. It’s his personality which is the problem. Always has been.

To be fair I've always actually liked Mourinho.
It's clear now he wasn't the right manager for United but I do like his general pantomimeish cockiness as a personality. Just a shame he couldn't adapt at OT even though I'm sure a lot of us accept that the problems ran far deeper than him.

I reckon Chelsea will be on the phone to him soon enough.

I foolishly thought he'd change despite my misgivings.
I'm so glad we're now looking to go down the route of our traditions. It may not pay off straight away in terms of results but it should be a whole lot better to watch.

I hoped that seeing those statues at the ground would appeal to hos ego and that he would want some of that.
Wishful thinking on my part.

Partialy agree with this.
He was the wrong guy for the group of players you have.
He needs a certain type of group to work with strong characters who he can trust and are top professionals. This was the reason he went for Maguire.
He had this at Porto, Chelsea first time and Madrid until Casillas had enough of him.

That is what I had in mind to. I'd have loved it had he said he wanted a statue too. No problem with that at all. I did think he started ok in terms of playing style but reverted to type by the end. A real shame as I do enjoy listening to him talk football when there's no agenda.

Yep, it’s all about passion, desire, winning the first ball etc, punditry has moved on and fans want more depth to their analysis than that, it’s Jurassic Park punditry.
Jose offered insight in spades yesterday and it was the first time in years I stayed tuned in after the final whistle to hear the post match analysis.
