I want us to go all out and try and win it.
In the group stages a mix of youth and squad players should do the job but in the knockout I want us to take it really seriously unless we (unlikely) are in a title battle. We should never not go for a trophy. It could mean the world to some of our younger players and those who've never won a trophy before.

I agree but I do think our 2nd is good enough to get through the group and maybe the last 32 and depending on the draw.
It should be our minimum aim this season. I’ve talked about playing a youth side in it but on reflection I think we have to win it as we’re the biggest side in it - let’s get a winning mentality into these young players - even into the likes of Maguire tbf
It would appear Utd have turned a corner đł
Having been in transition longer than Caitlyn Jenner it’s about time you perked up you filthy rag baastards
In it to win it. A lot of youth in our squad and not many accustomed to winning anything. Need to make them hungry.

On the contrary, he’s always hungry.
Group stages are used to give fringe players, returning from injury players and top youth players games. Should easily qualify that way.
We should be looking to win it. But that doesn’t mean using the first team all the way through. It’ll need judging as we go through the season.
Usually I say trophies are the biggest thing in football but this season I think I’d take a season where we finish 3rd/4th playing entertaining football and showing real progress rather than a season like than say a season like Jose’s first one.
There should be no need to play any of the first 11 in the group stages or even the round of 32.
The last 16 is where it potentially gets a bit tricky. We'll need to assess it from there.
Chelsea got to the semis last year with Hazard rested pretty much the whole way through.
.....................Romero
...Dalot....Smalling....Tuanzbe....Young
,,...............Matic.....Garner
....Greenwood.....Gomes....James
......................Sanchez
That should be enough for the group stages at least, it's a good mix of experience and youth. Garner needs game time because we desperately need another midfielder. He could be good with McT in a double pivot, with Pogba further up the pitch later on in the season.
The squad players get minutes, the young players get experience and our starting 11 gets some rest. Playing on a Thursday and then a Saturday will probably cement 6th for us if we keep on playing the same team.
Some good teams may be dropping into the group stages
Porto getting battered tonight. Celtic, Basel, maybe Ajax

If you want a slightly better footballing side, you could replace Jones with Smalling because he's better with his feet and Fred with Matic because.... well.... he's Matic.

Sorry I worded it badly. What I meant to say is I’d take a top 4 place playing good football over the type of season we had in Jose’s first season where we played a lot of drab stuff especially in the second half of the season but won two trophies.

It may be that Europa league will be easier to win than getting into the top 4
I don’t see them as either or situations.

Not the English one though
Could be our best chance at silverware.
Early on play the kids and hope they force their way into the first team.
Later rounds we should play to win imo
We really do need to get over our arrogance of thinking this is beneath us as well. At the moment it's our level and the quicker we realise that the quicker we'll move up a level again.
There's no reason at all why we can't mount a top 4 challenge and win the Europa. Chelsea and Arsenal pretty much achieved it last season in terms of doing both so we should be able to as well.
