Thoughts on tonight's game

Clarke looks crap. Won't get a look in.
Costa ain't shown marquee stuff so far
Klich is better than Phillips
White is great on the ball, but looks lightweight
Nketiah looks awesome. Drives forward and has that x factor of being a fox in the box too.

Can’t disagree with any of that rob👍

Agree with that summary.

Agree and I would add.

Berardi is a rightback, use him there

Thought Eddie was average. Promising at times but not getting carried away on that showing.
Wish he’d give Davis a game a left back. Poor lad is never going to be a cb.
Clarke showed patches of form.
McCalmont nice and tidy

Have to say when I saw who had got on the end of that corner for second goal I had to rewind a couple of times to make sure it was him.

Thought Phillips was outstanding tonight. Totally controlled the game. His range of passing has improved immensely. Quite rightly MoM.
Klich was class. Where did his pace come from for his goal?
Davis OK but a bit lightweight.
Shack's ball for Costa for the first goal was sublime.
White looks like he's been in the team for years. A poor man's John Stones. Some player there. Very composed and intelligent.

Alioski useless as a winger. Couldn't beat an egg. His position is LB as a herding dog. Has the workrate and snaps at opponents heals. Him or Douglas at LB.

Back four for me:

Berra...White...Cooper...Douglas/Alioski

Where the fook did he come from? Bamford should learn from him

Yet another Ref who failed to give us a stonewall penalty, another ref who missed a free kick on Klich but not Klich's reaction.

Would leave Shackleton in for Forshaw.

Eddie for Bamford. Much more mobile and link up play looked sharp. Will frighten a defence more than Bamford.

posted on 13/8/19

Nketiah more mobile but the first touch of Liam Dickinson off that showing. Willing to give him and Costa time. Both struggled against their deep defense.

White and Davis share MOTM for me personally. Thought they were superb, given their lack of experience.

Nketiah looked quick and lively. Not a 20 goal striker for me, hope im wrong.

Costa worth 5 million atm, not 15

Thought Klich and Phillips ran the show, especially second half.

Playing Davis at CB was probably the daftest thing ive seen this club do since the badge. Why o why haven't we got enough centre backs.

Casilla 7
Berardi 7
White 7
Davis 7 (for being hung out to dry)
Alioski 5
Phillips 7
Klich 7.5
Shackleton 6.5
Clarke 6
Costa 7
Nketiah 6

Davis had a good game. How is it daft playing a player who can play CB and fid a good job at CB at CB?

White's a freaking Ferrari. Ridiculously good signing.
Nketiah already shown enough to have Bamford upping his game to keep his place. KP looks Prem level.
Keeps improving. Very assured. And Klich I'm massively happy for. Got shunned until MB arrived. He's showing he's very important. And happy for Costa. We have the makings of a very strong squad.
And despite others saying different, I reckon before long this team will prove it's better than last years.

And hopefully people get off Berra's back. Bloke's great.

Unfortunately has to play players at CB that shouldn’t be there because we don’t have any.
Bielsa is wrong and should have sorted it in the transfer window and the same applies to sorting the goalkeeping situation.

I do agree fellas on the centre back issue and was the biggest omission in the transfer window. We might get away with it depending on luck with injuries and how much teams can get to us on crosses and set pieces more than we get to them with our attacking style.

I listened to the game on Five Live whilst heading home. Different dimension as you're dependant on third parties' opinions etc..

We didn't dominate as much as you'd expect given the gulf in class but I guess these games have been our undoing over the years so a win is a win. Good to get a clean sheet although KC appeared at times to do his best to give Salford City a fighting chance.....

Phillips appears to have picked up from where he left off, I'm surprised but relieved. Think retaining him could be the key to better things.

5 s from me young man.

I watched last night and for the first 30 mins I feared the worst. But overall I thought it was a great performance from so many of the players. It was a banana skin match, with the watching world and anyone not Leeds praying for an upset i'm sure.

I thought the young players did particularly well, for me especially Shackleton - really rate that guy. The pass to Costa was sublime. I also thought McAlmont when he came on seemed assured and good on the ball.

Against a limited league 2 side.

I’m not taking anything away from the lad but he isint a centre back.

Tonight we couldn’t even play a third choice centreback, because we don’t have one, what we have is a right back who couldn’t play there tonight, cause he was at rightback, and a leftback youth player playing there.

That is worrying when we have a full season to go.

Have to say, really agree with this.

I'm wondering if MB has plans for Ayling to be a CB this season? RB seems to have options and cover.

Defence could well be our achilles heel this season.

Looking at Berardi's goal, take a look at the way the players mixed and run with the Salford players dragging them out off line!..

A great goal that looks like its been well worked on in training!..

As for the game, we have to look at how hard it was for our players because of height, their players towered above ours making it almost impossible with high balls!..

But with this team it'll be a normal everyday thing I suppose!..

posted on 14/8/19

Maybe the reason Kiko comes for every ball is because hes been told to due to a lack of height when defending corners/set pieces, it certainly will be heart in the mouth stuff, i have joked we wont score from a corner all season and hey presto we score but we wont score a header and need to work on other options (wheres the set piece coach when you need him!!), thought they were playing for penalties or to catch us on the break till we scored, thought it was a decent performance and Costa and Eddie give us options we didn't have last season, someone said to me on Saturday they thought Costa didn't look fit and i remember MB implying he would have to work a bit harder to get in the side but he can play no doubt about it.
if we have a bit of luck with injuries this team will go close i think but the lack of cover at CB worries me also lack of height against a physical team,

I think that's it. He didn't come for every cross last season. He's clearly doing it as a deliberate tactic to try and stop us conceding so many from set pieces. It will look a bit mad but may help.

Only other option the club had was to go out and sign 3 or 4 players who were 6ft 4.
