Defensively poor

Playing the high line with Alisson in goal will work better as he acts more as a sweeper keeper than Adrian.

It's clearly something Klopp is looking at.

tbf neither cb are close enough to the lone striker too, its giroud ffs... that slow norwich striker too they need to stop playing like we're vs City every game playing offside traps and just defend... one gets close one drops off, win the second balls too. All the second balls inbetween out def and mf were won by Chelsea players.

Still early days yet, this is what happens when expectations are raised.

Unrealistic perfection is wanted just because of city.

Take a step back and see how well we are doing atm and appreciate how well Klopp has done to turn this cub around.

The way Kante was cutting through the midfield was a huge concern and he was supposed to be unfit. Gini comes on and hardly touches a ball. All the midfield was poor.

How many times did they actually get in behind? We caught them offside 11 times.

I will admit the Midfield is a worry. If they are not protecting the defence, but also not supporting the attack, then what exactly are they doing?

We started last season playing in patches, no more than a good half in games during the opening 6 weeks or so.

We're giving up a few too many chances right now but the balance will come, klopp always goes on about rhythm, we're yet to find it but we will.

Matip coming in was the right decision for me but playing Gomez was wrong, he got exposed a few times.

Thought gomez did ok better than Van Dijk and Matip playing as a RB. He made crucial interceptions that was needed.

Same thing they were doing all last season - running at people.

I've been thinking about this, because so far this season we have used a higher defensive line. With the implementation of VAR, I think the high line is a tactic employed by Klopp to take advantage of the new regulations. It makes sense in that getting caught out offside goals, is no longer possible due to the technology.

He was at fault leading to their penalty. Lose of concentration maybe.

Like inbefore said our midfield lost a lot of second balls.

I think the continual injuries to Keita is hampering the overall effort, I’m sure Klopp wanted him to play a much bigger role than he has so far. Can you imagine this team with Kante in it ? That would be something.....

This. They had 3 shots on target in the entire game. We had something like 12

We were woeful.

Matip and gomez looked like they never met. gomez came insdie too much and got caught out several times up the pitch and not working hard to get back in proper position. Matip let guys run off him and lost his man several times.

A lot of risky challenges either didn't come to anything or just got a toe poke away there.

We caught them offside fr two or three? goals.

Think it's just because Kante was playing out of his skin and you were facing more turnovers of possession than you usually do

Would only be a concern against like City and Spurs for you surely

It's clear we've a new high line approach for this season but if that's going to be our approach going forward it's going to take a bit of time to perfect.

In regards to the midfield, it would need to be more compact as we can't have one pass putting the opposition through like kept happening in the past two games.

It remains to be seen whether this new approach works but if it doesn't, we can always revert. I'm willing to give it time considering Klopp has shown he knows what he's doing but it is still slightly concerning. Last season we were struggling to create chances early on in the season but defending well and picking up points. I felt more nervous then with our approach than I do now.

I'm a little concerned too as we have looked vulnerable at times. It's more of a worry now Allison is injured because I the high line fits his sweeper keeper style of play. We caught Chelsea offide a hell of a lot last night, but we got caught out for their goal and runners and through balls from them last night were a definite concern.

The point I made earlier in the thread about VAR and offsides is worth considering when assessing how we set up defensively, but your spot on about letting this style bed in and being able to revert back if necessary

I would say that with gomez and vvd we are trying to play a high line.

we are looking to press right up and force the issue high up.

however it will take a small bit of time to fine where thst line should be as clearly v city and Norwich it was 5 yards too high
