Out of Time is one of REM 's worst albums in my opinion. In fact after they signed for a major, most of their output was pretty patchy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought their best album was in 1992
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For me once they upped their production levels, they kinda smoothed out the edges that had made them interesting.
Just my opinion though.
1973 was the year that changed my life on a musical perspective.
It just took one album. Dark Side of the Moon.
Blue Lines needs a mention in the OPs list.
1995 for me. 3 classic Wu-solo albums (only built 4 Cuban links... and Liquid Swords top 10 hip hop albums of all time) and a lot more top rap albums.
For you guitar lovers, Oasis' best album. For the miserable people, The Bends by Radiohead. Pulp. Smashing Pumpkins.
1971
Nilsson Schmilsson.
Badfinger’s Straight Up.
Elton John’s Madman Across The Water.
Rod Stewart’s Every Picture Tells A Story.
Yes, The Yes Album
Yes, Fragile
Paul McCartney, Ram
Carole King, Tapestry
The Who, Who's Next
David Bowie, Hunky Dory
Stones, Sticky Fingers
Joni Mitchell, Blue
Pink Floyd, Meddle
The Doors, L.A. Woman
John Lennon, Imagine
Jethro Tull, Aqualung
T. Rex, Electric Warrior
Black Sabbath, Master of Reality
Genesis, Nursery Cryme
ELP, Tarkus
Alice Cooper, Killer
King Crimson, Islands
Deep Purple, Fireball
ELP, Pictures at an Exhibition
There are hundreds more.
There's even a Leonard Cohen album but we won't mention that
I am a big fan of 1995:
Oasis - WTSMG
Radiohead - The Bends
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie
Bjork - Post
Jawbreaker - Dear You
Fugazi - Red Medicine
RHCP - One Hot Minute
Foo Fighters debut
Deftones debut
ODB - Return to the 36 Chambers
Pavement - Wowee Zowee
Cypress Hill III
Black Grape - It’s Great...
Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves
Chemical Brothers - Exit Planet Dust
And, to top it all, three Rocket From The Crypt releases: Scream, Dracula, Scream!; Hot Charity; and The State of Art is on Fire.
Awesome.

Not me. Awful band, fronted by a pretentious nobber.

Yep, never liked them and for a while they seemed to be everywhere.
There are a couple of artists who I appreciate are probably great because so many people love them, I just don't get it. Bowie - don't get it, don't see why he's so loved. Prince is the same.

Oasis Defintely Maybe
Blur Parklife
Prodigy Music for the Jilted Generation
Nirvana Unplugged in New York
MSP Holy Bible
Portishead Dummy
Stone Roses Second Coming
Jeff Buckley Grace
Suede Dog Man Star
R.E.M. Monster

The Holy Bible is probably the Manics at their best, though it’s pretty dark stuff. Monster is vastly underrated. Dummy is incredible.
Been listening to Grace again recently. What a cover of Hallelujah.

Years ago, I worked with a guy who loved Generation Terrorists but said the Manics sold out with Gold Against the Soul. No matter how much I told him that The Holy Bible made Generation Terrorists sound like a boyband in comparison, he wouldn’t listen to it. I wonder how many others felt the same.
Though I said The Holy Bible was probably their best work, I always go back to Everything Must Go as the defining Manics album.

I flit between their albums on which one is my favourite to be honest. At the moment I have Generation Terrorists playing and whilst it's too long and has some ropey songs it does also have a lot of energy and bombast as well asMotorcycle Emptiness on there. It's a mystery to me why that song wasn't bigger in America than it was.

I'd like to know how many people are picking a year when they were about 15 and life was great and naming all the music they liked best at that age.
1973
Pink Floyd: Dark side of the Moon
Led Zeppelin: Houses of the Holy
Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells
ELP: Brain Salad Surgery
Yes: Yessongs
Deep Purple: Who do we think we are
On the downside it was also the year Gary Glitter release the album “Touch Me”
Led Zep albums from 69 to 79 plus Pink Floyd albums of the same time period including the unsurpassable DSOTM really created a ceiling that hasn't been matched yet to this day.
And I don't think they will imo.

+1 for 1977 - possibly the last year of great AOR/MOR classics before punk/new wave turned everything upside down and longhair rock stars shaved their beards, cut their hair short and donned skinny ties in a vain attempt to remain relevant. After this - we endured the plastic 80's. It was a huge year for me personally - I switched from being on the sidelines to getting involved in the scene. It also got me out to Santa Monica, Ca for awhile - what a scene that was! And Pink Flag - that was the underrated LP of the decade IMVHO.
