What is this mess?

I do agree Neutral, there wasn't even an attempt to make up any of the lost time, I swear 10 years ago or so if 1 whole day had been washed out they would start half an hour early and finish an hour later etc in a slight attempt to make time up but there has pretty much been none of that in this test!

Exactly the same reason you don’t have all but 1 game in the PL on a Sat at 3pm anymore, TV rights to broadcast! Cricket owes its very existence in its current form in this country to Sky as without its funding it would be in a very sorry state.

Steve Smith is the only real Test Match Batsman on either side, the rest of the side are made up of one day players. Why they have five day tests in the modern age is beyond me, most barely last three days, weather apart.

ECB or ICC not that inept that they did considered the issue, reason could be that there is dew early in the morning or conditions are too bowling friendly.Would have been unfair to team batting in that part of the day

I mean they must have considered this

You're completely right. They could easily start at 10am for example.

Also, how many times do we have to see the end of the day's play curtailed in order to get an earlier start time for tests in India, SL, BD etc?

They should start half an hour early regardless as players needing treatment for Archer bouncers takes time out of the game

Joe Root Averages over 48 in test cricket. That fact would suggest he's a 'real' test batsman as you put it

Could have started at half 9, although they would have said the dew is too much... That's because it's almost autumn as you are playing the premier series in August and September 🙄 saying that.. The 2005 Ashes ended mid September too 🤔
