I like Willian but he was asking to be sold last night. He was dreadful and it looked like he was giving the ball away on purpose.

Tbone, yup, whatever you say about luiz, he has shown much more character than willian over his time at the club, if he's disposable, than surely willian is.

Probably should have cashed in a few windows ago as we're not going to get that type of money for him now.

He was awful when he came on yesterday, but that was his 1st appearance after an injury and hardly any pre-season so willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I suspect he would have gone this summer if it wasn't for the transfer embargo.

Thats the only silver lining for me. But he wasn't rushed back, so still disappointing

I don’t know what is more amazing, Barca offering £60m for him last year or you turning it down.

Amazing we didn't accept because we're likely not to get half of that when we do decide to sell him.

posted on 19/8/19

Definitely that we didn't accept. Barca must just be ignorant to how sporadic his good performances are

They signed Paulinho remember.

I'm actually expecting a more productive season from him as he'll likely play in his favoured position - left wing.

I hope yesterday was just rustiness and not a sign of things to come. We still have CHO to comeback as well.

Must be a Brazillian thing

I don't think he is lazy at all. I don;t think he has ever been lazy although i have always questioned his stamina over 90 minutes.

However, he was atrocious yesterday, possibly the worst 30 min ca,eo ever seen at SB.

But he has had a very different pre-season to the others, i still think in this group of players, he offers immense value to us, even though he is in decline.

I'm hoping it was just rustiness after injury. But I can't agree that he's not lazy, he's looked sulky and lazy since conte arrived at the club, I thought he'd improve once conte left (remember the beef ) but he was again sulky and lazy under sarri.

He's scored 28 league goals in 199 games for us. I can't see where his value is tbh

Willian’s been rusty for four years.

his gs records is terrible, but he offers/has offered a great deal of value elsewhere...best pressing forward, best tempo in attack, top 5 best chance creators in the PL for the last 5 seasons, great free kick taker

Will have to agree to disagree. Pedro for years has been our best pressing forward.

We always disagree over these two players tbh. It won;t change..Pedro yesterday was poor, gave the ball away in bad areas of the pitch...

In terms of chances created, do you mean for chelsea or the pl? He's not in the top 10 in any of the season I just looked at

do we okay mate.

I thought most the midfield yesterday was poor after first 25 minutes, other than probably mount

Willian puzzles me as a player. He is very good at certain things, very good with the ball at feet, lots of ability, good shot etc but his glaring lack of goals baffles me. There is no good reason why he shouldn't be scoring 15 or more in all comps every season but he never does.

Also I don't think he particularly wants to be here anymore. He might say the right things but he gives the impression of a player who'd rather be elsewhere. Maybe he's annoyed he didn't get a move to Barca. Fairly certain this will be his last season and he probably would have been moved on if not for the ban.

Isn’t Willian signing a new contract?

posted on 19/8/19

I can't see how he's 'Rusty', he's been playing competitive football for Brazil in the summer and he's had time to recuperate as he's not been rushed back for our pre-season.

It was just a dreadful performance. I'm hoping it was a one off bad game!

The club rejecting big money offers for Willian and Alonso in recent windows is just as bad as some of flips we’ve got recently. What I mean is..even us as fans could tell that it’s a good move to accept those offers, just as, as a fan, you predict buys like Bakayoko, Drinkwater just wouldn’t work out well. If fans can see it why can’t the board..?

Of course selling him this summer not good because of the ban but these bids came summer ‘18. Still perhaps one of the biggest unfortunates to this ban is that we have to persist with both Willian and Pedro (especially when combined with CHO injury).

This is true. I’ve been critical of him in his career with us when he first came but I think in last 3-4 seasons I’ve appreciated how talented he is/can be. I think it’s unusual for a player so talented how he rarely makes runs behind the defence. Poch once said he wished he could start coaching Dembele earlier in Dembele’s career as he’d be able to get even more out of him, I kind of think the same about Willian, like he missed out on high quality coaching to focus his game. Still is/was a good player but definitely could have been a world class winger with his talent
