it's not unrealistic to identify and integrate at least two from the academy every couple of years.

It is unrealistic. You have very unrealistic expectations of the academy in my experience, Brummie. I get that you want to see them in the squad but by and large they haven’t been good enough for Chelsea, and haven’t done anything to make it look a mistake once leaving the club either. That’s not to say that Chelsea are good at integrating them, but two every couple of years is unrealistic - I don’t think even Ajax, Benfica or Lyon do that.

I don't really think you understand what I mean Darren. I don't have time now, I'll try and elaborate later!

Good evening Darren. Just to expand on what I said earlier, I don’t mean that every two years we drag two 18 year olds out of the academy and throw them in the 1st 11. You appear to have fallen into the trap, like every man and his dog on the Chelsea board, that I want to see a team full of academy players – that’s never been the case.

However, I’ve always believed there should be a path for them and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect that a squad of 22 can’t manage to integrate at least two into it. I’m not even saying they should be starters but we should be able to give them a reasonable amount of time in cup games and as substitutes if the situation allows it. To be honest you should be able to have four of five to cover all areas of the pitch, they don’t all have to be substituted in the same game.

If they can make that breakthrough, then it’s down to the lads themselves to grab the opportunity and prove themselves, if they can’t do that then sell them off to lower league clubs were they can carve out careers for themselves and give opportunities to the next in line!

United can manage it, as do Liverpool, Le Ar$e, and even $purs successfully without too much detriment to the club, yet we with arguably the best academy over the last ten years have failed miserably on this front.

We now find ourselves in a situation, due to circumstances not entirely beyond our control, were we look likely to be heavily reliant on at least 4 youth graduates and a 20 year old from Dortmund to carry us through this season, which brings us back to were I commented earlier (To which Biggish asked for clarification) that this season will require time and patience, because as sure as eggs are eggs these kids will make mistakes and have bad games this season – just the nature of the beast I’m afraid.

I hope I’ve made my feelings a little clearer!

I was a fierce critic of him in the early Sarri days...I am seeing now what he brings in a pair with Kante...(which still isn't goals) but if & when we get CHO & Rubes back...that'd be a formidable midfield - with Mount backing up

sheriff still room for improvement with jorgino but not seeing what he brings to the table is ignorant. The guy can be class. end of last year I thought he was fantastic.

Dissapointing at the weekend, needs to take more control of games.

I suspect Jorginho's fallen into a category of certain fans hating him to justify taking up an argumentative position early on.

He's already debunked the ridiculous Sarri's golden boy perception. Questioned his character joining Juventus & criticized his usage of him (bit unfairly IMO) saying it limited his game. So that's wrapped up nicely then

to be fair I was an even fiercer critic of Sarri in the early days too....poor team selection, dogged one mindedness at times & no plan B

But to win the Europa & beat $puds & Utd to 3rd was way more than I expected...& then he ups & leaves...

Completely agree. However he also has a few who now staunchly defend him even when he has a poor game. Think we should all just try to be objective

I have to agree. Fans seem to have become so defensive of Jorginho (who did come under unfair scrutiny) that I think a lot of fans put him on a pedestal. There is a tangible difference in how him and Joba are perceived even though they’re both probably equally suited to this system and have started season the same..I dunno. I guess fan favourites will always a thing, and when the fan fave isn’t necessarily your fave it is a bit odd

Yep, I was one of them last year. There was a long period last year where the hate he got was so intense and so unfounded that I felt (and possibly others) compelled to provide a necessary counterweight by emphasizing everything good about him to the max.

Hopefully without the distraction of him being used as the anti-Sarri vessel on the pitch fans will approach him more objectively going forward.

I agree. I was similar with Cahill who I thought got a tough time. No way the best CB in the world but better than people gave him credit.

Good posts.
