Hughton spent a fortune on players last couple of seasons and they’ve all been rubbish - that’s why he was sacked. Gross wastage of club funds. Players he bought never played

When will Leeds fall apart this season?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

February or March. Id say write it down so you don't gorget but I cant imagine you'll forget at Everton's season will be over about the same time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I bet you do enjoy going to out if the way places to watch Leeds. Some of the places, do they really exist? Well, St James Park for your lads looks nailed on for next year.

There’s one decent town fan who holds a great conversation on here. The rest have been downright rude to us Leeds fans for 3 years now.

Whilst I'm not totally gonna disagree with you here, Kebab, as you're not exactly wrong, I think Brighton and ourselves ended up in the same predicament upon promotion in that you have to import players from abroad as trying to sign decent English talent would set you back double their foreign counterparts. Brighton still spent wiser than we did, hence our current positions, but you're largely fighting the other relegation for these "YouTube superstars". Some will fit ok, but the majority just can't hack the English game...for every Mooy there's fifty Mbenzas.

Hughton was sacked whilst still not looking likely to go down, when that for now should have been their only remit. Had Wagner had us in a similar position he wouldn't have even had the faintest risk of the sack. I do still think Brighton made a big mistake there and I don't see Potter doing much better. They're one of my tips to go down this season.

It's one of the main things that intrigues me about you guys getting promoted, assuming it's your time now of course. Whilst you have a much bigger reputation than us worldwide for sure, you will still most likely have to spend overseas. However, you're very tactically sound under Bielsa and he'll have a vast scouting network, so it will be interesting to see if you can break the mould.

Brighton spent £140m in last 2 seasons Under Hughton including.....

Jahanbakhsh 17m
Bissouma 15m
Locadia 15m
Izqueido 13.5m
Propper 11.7m
Bernardo 9m
McAllister 7.2m
Montoya 6.3m
Andone 5.4m
Ryan 5.4m
Suttner 4m
Burton 4m
Burn 3m
Tau 3m
Malakar 2.7m
Schelotto 2.7m
Gros 2.7m
Baluta 2.6m
Mateju 2.25m
Dreyer 2.0m

Net spend was £128m

The money was supposed to take Brighton to an higher level but by the end most of these players were not playing and Brighton were struggling to stop up. Expectations from the board likely too high but you can see why they lost faith in him

Towns net spend over same period was £80m

Leeds won’t be any different if they ever go up as fan base is not financially that big in comparison to sky money and ownership. If we went up this season there is no guarantee than bielsa would stick around. Leeds need selling to rich owners - the only way any club can break into the top 10 and stay there for a while

How much did the other relegated teams spend? Did Barfdif ever have to pay for the player who died in the plane crash?

I don't necessarily disagree, as contradictory as that may sound. I'm just clutching at straws a bit to explain why a guy who I rate highly, isn't the success I think he could be. Can't put my finger on it completely, but I do think there's a good manager there.

I think he’s a good manager and in general they are sacked too early or at the wrong times.
However you can see the boards point when £48m was spent on strikers and 35-yr old Glenn Murray continued to lead the line. Like Champers mentioned - into the European market but perhaps this is the wrong place to always shop?
Championship players Callum Wilson/Jamie vardy/josh king/ Troy deeney/Charlie Austin/ Ricky lambert have all featured in the prem leading goal scorers lists over the past 6 seasons and there are others like Ashley Barnes / Chris wood/teemu pukki/Andre gray etc who have done well at times. Perhaps Brighton’s big outlay on Maupay has recognised this?

Look at that list of players you provided. Barely any i'd heard of, or you i'd imagine? As a prem league club you get quoted inflated prices imo. No doubt based on that Brighton invested to try and get to the next level, but I just don't think as a club, and a brand, they're in the market for the players to take them to that next level. Those players cost more and want the clubs competing top half at least. I'm still clutching at straws, I think he as manager of that club has tried to unearth a few gems but it's not worked.

Maupay should be a great player from what I've seen of him ….. suspect he'll be a success for them this season.

Spot on that first paragraph mate. That's exactly the issue promoted clubs face. When you've the likes of Solanke going for 18 and Mings for 20, then you can't afford to NOT risk shopping abroad. Then you've just got to hope those players can adapt here because if they don't you can easily become the absolute mess that we are.

McBurnie - £20m ffs?!?! The worlds gone mad? Average is expensive if you’re in the prem.

Oh dear, another loss for the Dog Botherers...

On the bright side, they have now scored more than Hattrick Bamford!
