Agreed, that and the 'wealth creator' nonsense.
Philip Green having a knighthood is one of the biggest jokes in modern history.
Trouble is, I don't think there is an easy solution - but it has to be looked at. Society would be so, so much better off if all companies and Directors paid their fair share.
Well, you lot have amused me for long enough. Time for in the sunshine on the deck

I asserted no such thing and I did specifically mention large corporations in my initial post.
But their solicitors will always be smarter than HMRC - it's not good enough just to say 'close the loopholes'.
My view is that companies need to take some social responsibility and for people who say 'well they pay what they're legally required to', I just think that is a massive cop out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Businesses have different responsibilities to individuals.
We are at odds over the intention of your post so no need to drag it out
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can be at odds as much as you like, I know what I meant and what I said.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep.
And I think you’re mixing me up with someone who gives one iota of a fwck whatsoever of what you meant you miserable curmudgeonly old cwnt.
Your ability and intention to destroy conversation is l known on these boards mate. Not amusing. Not clever. Just being a cwnt. Well done.
Now fwck off. There’s a good lad. I have an enjoyable lunch ahead of me.

They do try, don't they? I believe a lot of tax payer money has been spent on it.
The people running those businesses should be ashamed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well actually...they should be in prison. That's my point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeh, no arguments from me there.
But as someone pointed out, what many of these companies are doing is legal.
Morally bankrupt, but legal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Engage with him at your peril Mags.
We can assure you he’ll just look for an argument and pull the whole thing down.
You’ve been warned

John Russell, lawyer and writer, an initial enthusiast for "the happie and blissed Unioun betuixt the tua ancienne realmes of Scotland and Ingland" was later to warn James:
Lett it not begyne vith ane comedie, and end in ane tragedie; to be ane verball unioun in disparitie nor reall in conformity…thairby, to advance the ane kingdome, to great honor and beccome forȝetfull of the uther, sua to mak the samyn altogidder solitat and desoltat qhilk cannot stand vith your Majestie's honor. As god hes heichlie advanceit your Majestie lett Scotland qhilk is ȝour auldest impyir be partakeris of ȝour blissings.
Olde English, but the warning is from 1604.

I saw a thing on youtube that suggested if you could go back it would be around 1600s before things become too difficult to understand with speak with upper class people.
Vowel shift around then or something and why you get weird spelling words like thought and stuff. Interesting but the guy on the video annoyed me a bit.

Mmm. The UK pension is one of the lowest in Europe already. Tax cuts for their wealthy mates but a much longer life for our kids. Is that what we really want? What kind of society is it in this day and age that suggests a plumber, a teacher, a nurse, a lorry-driver, a brain surgeon must work till 75 before they get a pension? It is quite ridiculous proposition but a threatening taste of things to come if these people get their way.
Our legacy might yet be that we leave our kids poorer than we were and with fewer opportunities than we had. Disgraceful.
